Re: Bump Depth Funky

Since MIke is having the same issue I will bring this up.....
There is something wierd going on with the appearance of bump depth.
Default settings show no bump at all......even if I crank up the build and bump after the stroke.
If I turn up build and bump to 100 and then make a stroke....then this other thing happens.....
With canvas on I see NO depth but if I turn the canvas OFF I see a heavy depth that looks almost metallic.
Any thoughts TAron....I have never had this issue before the Christmas version.
Heres some picts below...this is true for all 3 of the latest posted versions

My lord.... will you look closely at the interface and can you see the cute little [=] sign in the circle next to the paint icon?
I have to make a youtube clip, because written English somehow doesn't work...
There are now three paint modes:
Absolute [=] which will paint only up to the set build-up amount, avoiding material accumulation. It's good for sketching, will not create paint bumps as a result!
Accumulative [>] which is the old paint mode, accumulating material on the canvas, hence creating bumps!
Additive [+] which is adding color values, eventually creating a glow.

There is nothing wrong here, it's just me being unable to explain properly how it is working now.
You can either click on the cute little circle with the "=" in it to toggle through the three modes or hit [m], which will also go through the 3 modes.

Also, get the latest version, if you will, it has some more improvements!

Oh, and, please, tell me if I should rather default it to the old paint mode?

Ah Haa!

The best product is the one that explains itself I guess. I think I stumbled over the difference between the [>] and [=] modes but it didn't occur to me at the time.
I think most people would like the build-up mode to be primary because the tactile/visceral feeling of the fluids is the thing that attracts users.
However, you know from my work, I usually work more flat.

I noticed that the Smudge Chroma is preset to 33%, and I think was at 10% before, and for me, (I can't speak for anyone else) is not an effect I desire right up front.
But I'm liking where it's all going so far. Well thank you for the new tricks Taron!

WOOOO!!! The glowing factor is crazy (on the [+] mode) man! It's like painting with enriched nuetronium. I will indeed make use of that effect.

 ...maybe I should call the version Verve v.99radioactive? 8-)
Anyhow, I don't remember the chroma cha...OH YES I kinda do, it's actually acting differently now and that's the equivalent to the original preset! Should be a lot nicer. I'm happy! :)
Work a bit with it and see how it works for you!

Yeah, I agree on a different default for the paint mode. I made this one, though, because of the ordinary order in which one might approach a painting, you know, even doodling around. Sketch comes first, you know. However, there's still too much missing on that front to feature this, so you're absolutely right! Consider it changed! ;) (actually, it's changed now!) ;)

Hi Taron, I'm encountering a familiar problem with the latest version (0.99v.03). It's that odd speck of colour that seems to show up out of nowhere as I paint. Wasn't this fixed? Or does this version not include the fix you've made since?

AH, OH, that's a GREAT call, Wooph! I might have only fixed that in my internal update after this one. I'll have a look and fix it for this version, too!
I know what it is, but you can help me confirm it. Where you painting with pressure sensitivity on both size and opacity?

(dang, I can't reproduce it, which tells me that this has a fix to it in some form already. Can you tell me what you were doing to get this and can you recreate it, too?) :? :|

Also, please, add specs for your graphics card! :geek:

Also, this is my Dev Diary, not a feedback thread. Would you mind going into the Community forum with this, please?
Not like I was a neat-freak, but it's getting a little messy already on here.

Sorry about that Taron
It occurred to me after the fact that was not the right place to post the feedback...thanks for moving this.
And again.....thank you for sharing this update....I understand your hesitation and I hope you don't regret it! The masking and inage brush are game changer features !!! The implementation of the brush capture is soooo simple and intuitive....it is remarkable and brilliant....really!
I can't believe you have been sitting on this stuff for so long lol! I have to say the past year has been a bit of a bummer....not because of a lack of updates but because I was sooooo enjoying and relishing the journey of development and exploration that you invited us on! i just loved it and your videos and everuthing.....and then you were gone :( But now your back ...yeah!! !!!!lol.....You never cease to amaze me with your ingenuity and your generosity. I hope you will finally listen to us and provide a means to contribute to your work!
regardless......its all goid...we will keep requests to a monimum.....The default flat mode threw me for a loop but aside from that its just breathtaking! Looking forward to diving in deeper. Many thanks.

Awww, man...I'm sorry! I didn't mean to let you all down like that. I had to do what I had to do, you know, it's been a healthy choice for myself and I'm really only good for anyone, if I have proper energy.
A part of the big long gap was a development on different fronts of life. One of them has enabled me to get donations through the proper channels and very, very soon I will make a friendly DONATE button available. It will tell me a great deal, whether this adventure can be sustained and how I have to understand my place in our big artist family. I have great faith in universal logic and listen to it as hard as I can. The gears of this logic will soon reveal itself to Verve and all that I do. :)
