In this thread we can share our verve "secrets".
Would be cool if it goes sticky and without spam.

WARP LIKE IN PHOTOSHOP LIQUIFY

The warp function can be used like Photoshops liquify "forward warp tool" but you need some setting changes:

1. Brush #1 to avoid bristles destroying your lines.
2. Canvas texture off - see above.
3. fluidty 0 - for sure
4. size on pressure off
5. bias on <0? If not your warping gets probably very sharp which leads to edged lines.
6. brush tilt off can't harm. press "a"
7. smudge constantly on is optional but convenient.
8. press F5 and you see mirrored side simultaneously in realtime - optional, but very helpful.

I'm not sure, but the best control of WRAP results I get with fluidity 2-10%, with 0% I can't wrap anything. I also recomend to set blending button to less than 20 better 0. In the WRAP Mode with CTRL+W - also don't use a mask, disable your mask with Q. With blending value over 20 you will get more and more an blow up effect.

The best way to warp is to smudge instead of paint. This should have been clarified, sorry.
Fluid on 0 works if you SHIFT+LMB for smudge.
This gives you best control.
Blending on 0!
Otherwise it's like bulge when you smudge in warp mode.

But it's a good point zero. I never used warp in paint mode and the results are interesting. And then it needs fluids to be up.
Personally I guess line quality is best protected in smudge mode though.

Copy Layer Above and hit delete will create a clear new layer with the same settings (bump, glossiness, diffusion and so on) - easy, but thats my workflow since some days c:!

You don't need to copy the layer, if you wish to keep the same settings. It will use your current layer settings for the new layer! :geek:

I'm sorry dear taron, you are right - if you set a new layer with the layer buttons - but with shortcut I allways have F9 I have allways BUMP-10, GLOSSINESS-50, DIFFUSION-10 - would be nice for a fix, because I use F9 with PenButtons. And the second Pen-Button for merging Layers together. Can you fix it maybe one a day?! Would be fine - to have with F9 also the same setting.

Convert stock image to canvas structure

To convert a self painted layer to canvas structure, simply press CTRL+SHIFT+p.
But if you want to convert a stock image to canvas, this won't work this way.
Therefore it need to be partly transparent.

I haven't found a solution with verve only, as you need to make bright or black parts of the picture transparent.
1. In PS (or gimp, or, or, or....) desaturate the picture .
2. Choose under selection color range. click on brightest pixels. Refine range until your likeness and confirm.
(If you select brightest pixels, the color will later fill the dark areas more)
3. Copy selection and paste as new layer.
4. Make other layer invisible

5. Save as png with transparency.

6. Open verve and press "load" (center of "nameless" three top right retangles)
7. load your picture with transparency - confirm changing resolution.
8. press CTRL-SHIFT+p to make canvas structure
9. load original picture
10. paint with brush #9 - adjust brush opacity and canvas strength to your likeness.

That's the only way I've found so far.
Even if I load in *_mat.png materials generated with verve, I can't convert them into canvas bumps again. Would be lovely to generate bumps for canvas from greyscale pictures. Should work even better.
