Free visual references

Hi.
Target is to collect decent websites for visual references.

Categories:
1. 3D
2. 2D
3. Video

Here some links to start with

1. a) very hot: https://sketchfab.com

Not super detailed, but there is everything in your webbrowser, from dragon to robot to houses. Use free „peak through“
http://www.lukepaynesoftware.com/projects/peek-through/
program to make any window transparent and you can place the model exactly like you want - screenshot - done.
Scaling in verve would be lovely, but one can do the image brush dance.

1. b) blender & Manuel Bastioni LAB
http://www.manuelbastioni.com/manuellab.php
Google it. Manual Bastioni is one person behind „make human“
It still has some strange porpotions, but you can change anything inside blender.
Needs a bit learning.

1. c) „make human“
Haven‘t looked there for a very long time - man! they made big progress.
http://www.makehuman.org

2. a) Deviantart / it‘s amazing how much people offer pictures for reference. From nude to massive vintage clothings, animals everything. Watch their rules. Some don‘t wanna be copied. But nowadays you can win an Oscar with a 100% copied idea.

2.b) Pinterest - even though I hate this permanent log in duty, there are so many alteady pre collections to watch!
Resolution is not good and path to original is sticky and not this millenium.

So much more for later.

3. a) croquis cafe
https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=lco2_K5ZtG4
Videos of nude poses turning 360 degree.
Best to download it

3. b) Life drawing

https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=QXj4geDDuak

Timed fixed poses.

Re: Free visual references

Maybe these dolls are good for paintings/drawings? Body Chan / Body Kun?!
I don't really know - do you know them? Whats your opinion?

Re: Free visual references

As a former model builder, and a bit sculpting with Super Sculpey, I really enjoy those figures.
And they are not so expensive as well.
They are looking much more flexible (hand wise etc.) and much better equipped like wooden figures.
But having already loose arms on unboxing is a bit concerning about durability.

Second you'll need space on your desk.

Third - you need an extra step and you have to make a picture if you wanna onionskin it as he did in his example.
BUT - you always have the full body in your hand, which is a plus.

Anyway, you won't have any chance to change proportions.
The stand itself looks a bit bombastic and not so decorative for your desk.
Maybe some magnetic foil as platform and Neodym magnets in the feet?
If you wanna do some real sculpting, I guess it could come in pretty handy.

My personal conclusion.
Even for just under 30€ including shipping, I wouldn't buy it. It's not about money.
I know myself.
I am super excited about those things in the very beginning and after I get lazy and leave it in the shelf (with all the other things I really needed so badly once :D)

If you wanna be more flexible in proportions you really should try blender with manuel bastioni.
http://www.manuelbastioni.com/
He is doing so many improvements lately, it really seems to get something quite big.
There you can adjust a lot of features, size, fat, slim etc. Quite some different base meshes from two Manga versions to very realistic stuff.
Learning blender is not as difficult as it seems, specially when you focus on simple things first.
Last but not least.
With coming up EEVEE and super exciting 2D animation possibilities with Grease Pencil it will be a free 2D+3D animation studio.
All done in blender:

Uuups, a bit OT already.

EDIT:
Back to topic. Bastioni LAB explained detailed
