Re: Everyone, what Graphics Card are you using?

pudjakjuzto uses a GTX1080 and can go up to 3889x3857, as he said here:
http://www.taron.de/forum/viewtopic.php?f=6&t=2476

He uses verve that often that these are very reliable tests.
Check the thread and video.
I don't know if he uses layers which will effect things as well.
Best to ask him directly.

According to my experiences, it's not about painting only, reopening the project can fail, even when during painting everything was fine.
Without knowing, I wouldn't expect too much from a second card.
SLI is not supported in verve, isn't it?
I am pretty curious about your results, Tartan. ;)

3889x3857 is a decent resolution.
Meanwhile, my Titan GTX has become pretty old.
These are my tests:

Re: Everyone, what Graphics Card are you using?

You bet! Patience is part of my every new years resolution! :tantrum: :ud:
But, yeah, I do fully understand 4k, if you know you are planning on creating print art. If you happen to have a 4k monitor, it also is nice, naturally. But sometimes it feels like people just play a kind of quartet card game, thinking that the higher the resolution, the better the artwork and so on. But this just is not true at all. It is practically not true! I've made a wonderful career, starting it with 1k images, mostly viewed at even smaller resolutions, but people saw what I can do and wanted me to do it for them. Again, if one is ready to create printed art, 4k makes sense, but I'm saying the first and foremost important thing is to discover your own artistic powers before wasting any energy on blaming a lack of ultra high resolution for the rate of ones artistic development. Short version: Chill out and just paint! c:!
Ironically, especially Ed is doing stuff that works wonderfully at normal resolutions and wouldn't gain a whole lot from anything above 4k. :ob

Knacki... I don't think Verve has anything that prohibits the cards internal management. I would assume SLI is just as supported as any openGL tool would. But I don't know for sure.

Re: Everyone, what Graphics Card are you using?

wow, I guess I did it again :? ,
Sorry for any inconvenience caused, though I still wonder if a 12k canvas is possible.

yes, I suposse it's me, I know a 10k x 6k canvas could be printed on 120cm x 76cm at 200 ppi, which I consider to be a normal nude session paper size
I guess it's cuz I'm an old fashioned fan of the fineart hanging stuff, that sometimes I forget I'm painting a 2DCG.

Here I check the print sizes:

Thanks for all the replies, hope we cast some light on this matter, even if it seems a bit picky. xD

Look at stavros thread about printing and the satisfying results he gets with even small resolutions.

Re: Everyone, what Graphics Card are you using?

If you print on canvas, which is the most beautiful way to print these kinds of paintings that suggest some oil paint, you get away with less than 200dpi without any troubles and it still looks just beautiful. I've made such prints and the results shocked me back then. It was an idiotic story, but well... I was asked to make an exhibition of my works with the offer of them printing the paintings. I told them to do it at a small size, precisely for the reasons you've mentioned, but they totally- and I mean totally- ignored my wish and went twice as large with everything. They did turn out great, but even I wouldn't have wanted to hang those massive things anywhere. Great for the exhibition, but stupid for selling them.
Independently from that I was asked to print out one of my darker paintings, sold it for $300 back then. They did what I had asked and it was about 70x50 at 2.5k, I believe. I did two prints and kept one of them, still hanging next to me here. It's just wonderful! That's at roughly 130dpi. You can go at it with a magnifier and still won't see pixels or see anything wrong with it. :)

Thus, I believe that it really depends on what you're looking for. Sometimes, when it gets too "sharp" and on smooth paper, those print outs will look like...well... print outs. You get about as tired of them as you would about any poster. But on canvas, while you get away with much lesser resolution, you have a painting you can frame and be happy with for decades. c:!

Re: Everyone, what Graphics Card are you using?

many thx knacki n Taron for the info about printing, also I wrote to pud about the max canvas resolution.
About the new GPU, which should it be, the Vega Rx or the gfx 1080?
I hope to know what is the max canvas resolution with the 1080
thx advanced Tartan.

Re: Everyone, what Graphics Card are you using?

Cool Knacki great links showing up in this thread :) Taron the ability to print in quality is always of consideration and I love the thought of transferring to Canvas :) Np Ed :)

The new MSI 1080 TI I ordered will be here on Friday. I have run in SLI for years mainly to satisfy the competitive gamer in me not the artist. And besides it's fun being 60 years old and slaughtering most youngsters I come across in PvP in World of Warcraft. It's a great stress reliever. muhahaha :ob :D But I haven't really played much in months.

The problem is that I will be going in for dental surgery tomorrow. I will definitely be on pain killers a few days. If I am not too out of it I am looking at Saturday or Sunday before I test the 1st GPU and then install the new one and test. Today involves buying lots of soup ;)

Re: Everyone, what Graphics Card are you using?

Sooner or later I need a new system as well.
Pretty much interested in your tests tartan.

BUT - take your time! Dental surgery can be kind of......maybe the pain killers will paint flowers on your walls ;)

Good luck!!

AMD Radeon R7 200 Intel Pentium CPU 3.00Hz Ram 8gb. Funciona muy bien con una resolución de lienzo de 1270x720. al intentar superar 1920x1080 de resolución de lienzo comienza a ponerse lenta al aumentar la Fluidez. Muchas Gracias, tu programa es genial!!! c:!

Re: Everyone, what Graphics Card are you using?

hehe More like flowers on my pillow :ud: :D Thanks Knacki. It was rough but it appears I have survived lol.

Sorry it took me so long to get back. The test was simply to see what was the biggest resolution image I could get in the current version of Verve with SLI both on and off. There are differences with earlier versions but there is no need to go there. When this started out I had a regular GTX1080 with 8 gbs of Vram paired with my TI. It was always my intention to use that card in a dedicated graphics computer and make this one a pure gaming machine as I used to do. That meant going ahead and buying another TI anyway.

First I decided to test the single EVGA 1080 TI. I homed in on the resolution by starting with 6kx6k which crashed Verve and fine tuning between 5k and 5500x5500. At 5500 with a single card it imported in white and impossible to work on. If by chance you have imported an image and it is all Black, turn High quality off and you will see your image and be able to work on it.

5400x5400 was the highest I could import a workable image.

So how does an SLI enabled computer work with Verve? Well it works but not as well as the single card. 5200x5200 was the highest resolution I could import with 2 gtx 1080 TIs :ud: :tantrum: :ud:  I find that very strange to say the least. But since I bought the second TI for pure gaming it doesnt really matter. Now to start work on my Xeon core graphics computer :D

Knacki if you are going to upgrade go for components and try and avoid upgrading your motherboard for now. PCIe5 is following right on the heels of the new PCIe4. Most boards are PCIe3. I suspect there wont be many PCIe4s rolling out or much support either. by 2020 PCIe5 will be up and rolling
