Barely had any free time recently, but I'm really liking verve from the small amount of playing I've done so far!!

Re: noodling around

That's like early christmas to me, Greg! THANK YOU! :)
I have to get the new version ready, it has already some really nice improvements, even to the colorwheel again. Anyway, I'm grateful you've had any time at all and I love your style very much! It's utterly humbling to me. :D

...and utterly inspiring, I should add! :D

Re: noodling around

Thanks T!! :)
Looking forward to trying the new version, very cool stuff. I'm still really getting to grips with what can be done with this program, very exciting, but it makes for a very different way to work! Letting go and letting the dynamics do their thing with loose quick brushstrokes can lead to beautiful random serendipitous stuff happening, but it can also just cause a big mush :) Whereas turning up the damping and painting more intentionally kind of just defeats the point. Definitely need to keep practicing and playing around some more!

Re: noodling around

Very nice and varied look to all of these! The last two come across to me as vividly illustrating some form of illness or pathogen, probably mostly due to the color choices. Might also be that I'm just getting here from playing horror-themed games a moment ago ;)

I agree that the super-fluid setting can be very entertaining but somewhat frustrating or destructive to use, since it's all too easy to give in to the urge of swirling everything around just a bit too crazily and ending up with well-stirred pudding instead of intricate textures. I think much of the idea is that even lower settings should be useful and more subtly act as a physical way of mixing and treating the paint medium rather than strict fixed layered blending as most other digital applications do. Kind of finding a way of interacting with the stuff, discovering what it actually does even if that means losing some direct control. I know I haven't spent nearly enough time with it yet to do that myself, and when I do sit down I tend to get a bit itchy and impatient. That's a common problem whenever I start drawing though, so no fault of Verve's.

Re: noodling around

The next version coming up will have a bit more "control" over how you can puch the fluids with a "fluid sharpness" parameter. It leads to finest swirls and actually higher speeds, but large scale swirling can get a bit wild. However, I'm thinking of adding a whole new component to it, which may hopefully make it even more physical in a way. Not sure how well this will perform, but if it did well at some cost, I might just make it an optional mode, so to say.
A whole paradigm of brushes will also come up. But most important remains the interface, of course. I'm a bit too busy right now to deal with this, but in the next few weeks something good should happen for sure! :P
