Re: zen's gallery

May I come in there for a second, because it appears to me that the second one is a motion towards stronger style consistency, rather than pursuing vividness or liveliness of the subject itself. I can easily see an interesting debate unfolding over the pros and cons of both inclinations. :shrug: ...I think, it has greater strength and integrity in the second version, while the eyes could get a bit more strength or dimension... I dig it!

Yep, understood same too. It's a template to work further on.
Me personally I would prefer a new start to get everything fresh again.
But as you said, taron. A gallery it's not a place to discuss fundamentals in art.
I am sure that zen will surprise us again, whatever he does and how;)

Re: zen's gallery

Yes, her eyes have not been finished. I had dilemma should I paint her right eye's pupil (viewer's POV) at slightly left (as it can been seen from the photo, she had left eye skewed). Now I know I will! I adore her more because of that imperfection. :D

@Knacki

It's hard for me to think of a template of anything as I started this portrait. But yes, we can think of first sketch as a template for the second I did (which can become painting if I ever finish it ;) ).
I first started with some lines, which is pure abstraction according to Cézanne. Then I add color etc. based on rationale and current inner feelings with subject I paint (and help from Derain's painting I used). I really need to connect with subject. I found that at the beginning I struggle but later in process everything went smoother and I place those patches of color much easier. I still paint more than 95% by pure observance and rational thinking and with very little inner work which I believe makes painting special.

@Taron

Yes, I used in second one what I learned with first one and pushed it more forward being accurate.

This is one possible outcome of her eyes:

Paul Cézanne needed approx. 150 sittings with model to complete portrait.

A lovely quotes from Paul.

Re: zen's gallery

I think it's a great addition to the top row, underlining the c:! nature of Verve with grace and conviction! Thus I put it there! 8-) :ob

I must add that this last one is 100% Verve (just cropped in PS, even that could have had been done in Verve). I didn't used color correction as I didn't liked how it pushed yellows into whites on previouse one!

Thank you Pilou!
It's really a big palette, so Verve does good thing in mixing colors on canvas! :ob
I picked a fraction of this from color wheel. ;)
