thanks for the tips, Taron!

hmmm yes, I gathered that paint acts differently when on an empty layer. I had to merge the sketch layer to start removing the lines instead of working on a layer above, because I couldn't tame the paint haha

I didn't finish removing the sketch lines, since that wasn't the goal, and I think I will do more of these "hybrids" before I go for a more finished piece

Wehehehell, this is probably the most aggressive yellow that ever beamed from a website right into my eyes in a nearly blinding fashion, hahaha!
Your statement puzzles me greatly, but anyway: The way I normally go about it is to make a line sketch, then add a layer BELOW the line sketch. There I do the colors. Then I may add a layer above all of them to add highlights only. It's a quick and pleasant method. I'm pretty sure I have an example somewhere in my gallery. Hmmm... I could see, if I find it. Maybe I should make a post in the community section.

thought I desaturated it a bit lmao. I remember that post, or at least a post by you with an explanation of your layer approach. Along with the scary head painting uwu

I realised what I did wrong and why I couldn't work with the paint on the top layer when I tried to paint over the lines. I turned off the bump dial completely for the bottom layer (yellow bg), but forgot to do it for the new one! So of course the new bumpy yellow paint stood out. My bad, my b

Another tip for the line sketch is to switch to "=" mode (or hit M twice to cycle to that mode). This will prevent a continuous paint build-up, clamping your paint buildup to what ever buildup setting you have dialed in. Default is good and equals 1.0 or 100%. It's half way on the build-up dial. I like to do sketching that way.

Very nice, for lineart I like also to turn off canvas + no fluids, brush #6, bristels 100% and Bias near by 100% - 100% to hard.

Thank you, folks!

Another batch of those abstract bases done in Verve (using Knacki's excellent instructions further up the thread!) then glitched in Audacity/Ps
