Uh that's purdy! Love the dark depth of the forest there... although I get more of a birch vibe?! Very nice, though! There's a picture here on one of these walls in the apartment that is all birch trees, although the leafs are yellow, it still reminds me a lot of this and I did do a sketch inspired by it, hehe...but nothing I kept. It wasn't nearly as gorgeous as yours there! :ob

Thanks! The trees (leaves) I saw were maple and beat red, like a larger Japanese maple. Hmm, :? see what you mean... for this painting, my leaf shadows seem to look more like birch stripes.
I was on I-10, westbound, past a small town called Midway (Tartan will know) and noticed a stretch of forest that was freshly plowed under for some business. The trees were shining in the sun next to the property edge and the main feature that struck me was the blackness of the shadowy inner-woods that were in contrast to the lit areas.

It's very effective! Did you know that there are two possible spellings for the plural of leaf!? At some point I was writing about something like "he leaves the leaves out in the sun" or so and it struck me as bizarre, so I figured "leafs" should make a clearer distinction and sure enough... it exists and appears to be correct as well. Funny... just thought it's funny.

Yeah, there's so much to be explored about lighting, some of which doesn't immediately cross ones mind and that is one of those things; deep darkness in the thick of a cluster during daylight. It's lovely!

Lovely!
The branch on left front makes the composition complete.

Yes, nice birch study ;) ... are they really so red, the leafes? We have also birchs, but in germany they have only yellow leafes in autumn :)
