Re: With verve into the light

It's pretty surprising how much colors are hidden in these supposed to be black birds. Thank you very much, taron!
Haha, well Tartan - I hadn't Odin's raven in mind, but surprisingly I was involved in a project about the Vǫluspá in Copenhagen this year.

For the very first time, I wanted to try verve for photo manipulation.
As so often, it was an spontaneous idea, so I went to deviantart to look for some inspiring stock, which I found here:
http://fav.me/d4gwntx
Incredible what quality is shown there in-between.

I liked the pic, downloaded it, started to crop it bigger and smeared around until I got an idea
Finally I put it to PS for some tweaks and here it is:

Re: With verve into the light

That's very nice, Knacki! Since you already went to PS, you might as well could've sharpened the front of the bird a little to marry it a bit more to the photo, like a visual echo of sorts. Somehow the clouds feel a little to monochrome throughout. Somewhere, possibly similar to an imagined mirror, it could've gotten a bit of a warm tint to it, almost like a transparency, resembling the girls colors or even something complimentary to freshen it up even more. We're just talking about hints, of course... it just would raise a sense of completeness, I'd imagine.

Other than that, it is gorgeous! And the idea is almost poetic. :) Very well done! :ob

Re: With verve into the light

Thanks for your comment, taron. Yes you are right!
But reading it, I already had finished a complete iteration

Visually, I like this much more.
100% verve. Complete background touched.

Verve's smooth gradients are a blast!

Re: With verve into the light

Uh, yeah, it's already getting better and better. That second one has much more dimension and airiness. Having more values in the mountains really helps a great deal! The first one looks really like black mountains in some sort of dry ice like fog. They could very well be tiny. But the second one has size and atmosphere. Ride on! c:!

Re: With verve into the light

Thank you taron.
I guess it’s a good start now. I do hope to find to improve a bit more in this. But clouds and mountains are on a good way.
The very cool thing about verve is, that you can do oilpainting tutorials one to one.
I watched this:
https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=GHxcDB9TBHs

But could be any tut.
Brush 9 plus smudge and average for background and clouds. One two image brushes for clouds can make live a bit easier.
Brush 7 for basic mountains, brush 8 for structure.
That’s all you need.
Fun!
