Re: Brush Settings & Configurations

You're welcome!
...I really left you all with a total laboratory version, which I wanted to abandon for a totally new version, but it's kind of nice to still clean it up a bit more.

Re: Brush Settings & Configurations

buggy as hell xD
when opening vrs files with different CURL settings, canvas texture changed, brushes don't act exactly the same, something on their fluids change, so they paint different. pressing Shift F2 twice or Ctrl P (switch texture mode, right?) kinda solves it, but not entirely. In my first attempts at low resolution(default res) of the last version you just uploaded when trying to solve the artifacts after loading a *.vrs by pressing Shift F2 twice Verve crashed, showing EXCEP ACCESS VIOLATION* msg.

I notice some artifacts before but Verve never crashed,
So you are writting a new version of Verve from scratch? hope this feedback is usefull though.
Nice app.

PD:
I guess you already saw this Taron, it's an old Microsoft research released in 2012 if I'm not wrong.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WTw-_V_R0A0
but just in case you not, and since you are writting new things for Verve, I thought this was very worthy in regard of interface and how color shifts interactively...
I really love this video at minute...
6:50 how colors are blended on pallete, loaded on brush, and painted on canvas, nice interface.
8:50 how paint strokes gather color underneath (color already placed on canvas) and blends with it so the stroke color changes afterward.

Nice app.

Re: Brush Settings & Configurations

Download again...should be fixed now. Dismiss your previous setting saves with the new version, though; they won't work anymore!
Let me know, if you have a crash again, though. That's always concerning! :geek:

For the totally reworked version of Verve I already had everything you've suggested on the list, namely color pallet choices, but a whole lot more than that. All bug reports for the current version are kind of an indulgence, but still good. So thank you! ;)

Ah, pfff...just saw the video. I'm not a fan of the interface. It looks cute, but it's huge and you have to put it away to work...just bugs me. But the color pallet is in fact similar to what I've got planned. Uh...dang...it's VERY similar, having bristles hold the colors they touch. Ah well... c:!
Anyway, that looks like a very pretty paint app, though. First time I see that. :ob

Re: Brush Settings & Configurations

Yes if I'm not wrong, some guy in the research team, made his way appart and created EXPRESII, nice fluid dynamics app too.
how is it going your new totally reworked version of Verve? is it in an early stage?

Re: Brush Settings & Configurations

I'm contemplating to go C++ with it, which would be a complete restart, but far more promising in terms of image formats and possibly performance.

Re: Brush Settings & Configurations

so starting from scratch it could take between one to two years, I'm guessing.
in which language was Verve written?

Re: Brush Settings & Configurations

Starting from scratch to kind of where it is now may only take a few months. Possibly it will be quite a bit more exciting then already.
Verve currently is written in BlitzMax. But really, the heart of it is openGL GLSL, which could literally stay the same, though, I'm planning on making a whole lot more experiments then, too. Thus, the "host" language really just manages GUI aspects of which the canvas ultimately will be part of, too, in my new concept. It also does all the IO stuff, of course, which will have me explore the wacom API in C++ for the first time, but I don't expect there to be too much of a problem. Image import will get exciting for me, because I'll want to find elegant ways of reading and then interpreting major formats, allowing for all sorts of interesting import options. This could get quite fun! :bounce: ...the nerdy kind, too. :geek:

Anyway, yeah, I'm not entirely under a gun, but soon I'll have to finally allow everyone to support my development via either donations, or I make something special to sell. For that, though, it has to fulfill my criteria of being pure luxury and nothing "normal" people really need, but hopefully would want. Maybe a cute game?! I don't know, yet. I might try to go commercial with my synth developments, hmmm... we shall see!

Re: Brush Settings & Configurations

few months? wow, how is possible other painting apps took years to a team to develop?

Re: Brush Settings & Configurations

Because I'm...well...what I am?! ...I like doing things fluently, quickly and obsessively for a certain periods after which I need to take prolonged breaks. People, who know me, know that quite well. However, as I"m getting older, I become a bit calmer and more consistent, though, it still remains in my nature. Once the Italian police wanted to give me a ticket for 3d modelling too fast! 8-) ...but well, it has its challenges, too, of course.

Then there's the BIG team problem! In a team, people have to wait for each other to proceed and also organize quite well, who has to do what and so on... it's tough to coordinate that and even tougher to really get a consistent product. Since I don't have to wait for anybody and my vision is getting clearer and clearer about all the little things I need, I can more easily proceed through the various necessities with a single minded focus. I need no meetings, no arguments, no lunch (hahaha), no vacation (dear me, as if I ever had one?!), but I can work with all of you to find motivation, which is the most important thing. When I am properly motivated and in good spirits, I tend to fly forwards and upwards, but on the other hand anything that harms that motivation can have a bad weight. These are the other challenges of being a sole-developer. There are a number of other challenges, too, of course. SO...it sure is a trade-off. But as we follow our hearts, we take to the peaks of our strengths! :)
