I recently found a nice value tutorial.
This guys renderings are so clean, you are wondering if it‘s done by an engine. His style is very impressive and I am quite sure one well known person here will like it as well ;)

Example:

Tutorial
https://www.deviantart.com/bonekrishna/ ... -523885783

Specially the explained connection between value and color, as simple as it sounds, will demystify a lot, or at least helped me a lot to understand working effectively with color layer in other progs.

Pahaha, oh my god, that's so naughty. He's doing the kind of prodigy like mastery that even knocks me off my socks and makes me stare in disbelief about how this can be "painted" in photoshop, haha. Then he makes a "tutorial", which basically is the same thing I do in my sloppy ways, but to get the results he gets you have to have perfect understanding of all kinds of illumination, a master of light and surface. You cannot just happily imagine those things, but you need to truly know them, understand them. What he shows there is not a "tutorial", but a glimpse at his brilliant mind. Outstanding! :bow:
HOWEVER, before anybody things that one "needs" those layer modes, they are not what makes his art so amazing!!! Don't mistake "tricks" for the solution, because he really, really gets it! If his lighting wasn't as perfect as it was before playing with colors and blend modes, non of this would make any significant difference. I would completely love to see what he would do with Verve and how it could handle it. If he can step back from the layer effects and just focus on his art, I somehow think he would do the most stunning things with Verve, too. Not sure, if he would be in the mood for it, though. It's a different philosophy, of course.
But, yeah, for those who then start bickering about blend modes, it's not his "big trick"! His big trick is being a genius. ;)

Thanks for sharing, Knacki! :ob

@taron

Haha. I was sure you would like that, as you have shown your similar workflow here as well.
Yeah, you are absolutely right. He masters light in a perfection, which is really outstanding.
Nothing one can copy without years of studying light.
But even for a beginner, the very effective shown interaction between value and color can give some helpful hints. After, I searched for some color to value charts to get it even more.
His work was a big inspiration to me, to try this approach. With less perfection but better understanding. I guess in ten years or so, I‘ll be there :)
