Issue with file association

Default application to open .vrv file fails to set to Verve.
Just downloaded earlier today, older version would launch when a .vrv was clicked(file didn't load though)
This one doesn't launch when same file type is clicked and I can't get it to stick on Verve, it wants to use 3DS Max :|
If you know of any keys to check in the Registry, I would be grateful to know them. ;)

Windows can be quite a formidable opponent sometimes. I've managed to just choose Verve_painter.exe as "open with:" application out of the file properties menu and now it all works just fine, but if I had picked it through the requester series you normally get when you open an unknown file type, it wasn't sticking either for some reason.

Have you tried to disassociate vrv from 3dsmax? I'd first search the registery for .vrv and delete any keys that seem to bind it to something. After that I'd do exactly what I've done:
Right click on a .vrv file.
Select Properties.
Go to "Open with:" and browse for "Verve_painter.exe".
Accept.

If anyone else can respond to this, that would be good! Thanks in advance! :)

Yes, I've been in there and deleted Max from .vrv association...Maybe there's more than one entry? Machine still works(thankfully) Does the application have to be in a certain place to work right with Windows? I tried Program Files and Program Files(x86)
It doesn't show up in the list because...there was no .msi file(hence it's not installed as far as Windows is concerned), just the .exe.

So, after several failed attempts at massaging the registry, I resorted to System Restore and was able to properly associate the file and now Verve opens as it should with file contents displayed. Happy now :D
