Yeah, that's a fun idea, Pilou! A good reason to add more parameters later on for the material images. Right now it's not all too suited for this, but I can make it work later, why not! :ob

After further test, I always found myself doing Shift Space and move pen to the Left/Right xD, The zoom level varies too quick imho.
I happened twice, that the cursor disappeared (just the circle around the cross), I tried pressing Shift Tab, and resize the brush, but it didn't appeared again, I could not paint, or smudge, afterwards.
I'm almost sure it was after pressing Ctrl Space move pen to the Left/Right, or Shift Space move pen to the Left/Right.

I Like the feel of the painting, that dynamic brush makes expressive marks.
Congrats Taron.

Re: Vervette Fluid Sandbox...

Ahahaha, yeah, [Ctrl]+[Space] can temporarily mess things up. Just hold [Ctrl] again and click the mouse, this should bring it back again. Strange logic bug as the key management is still in a flux.
Very cool, Ed! Certainly an expressive portrait sketch already! I actually enjoy the brush dynamics, too. It's curious, feels different. Pen Pressure will come as soon as I work on a win10 machine, or possibly sooner, but there's something to the speed dynamics, the way I made them...they are very organic and you can develop a feel for it.

So, yeah, right now: Avoid using [Ctrl]+[Space], hahahaha... :hihi: ...will be find later.
ALSO, you can use the mouse wheel for zooming. Wacom by default has the ring as mouse wheel, which also works very well for zooming, I found. Later I will also explore touch gestures, actually. Intuos 4 has touch as well, which could be interesting, but my target there are tablets like the IPad or Android.

Well, thank you, Ed, for not giving up, that's AWESOME! c:!

Re: Vervette Fluid Sandbox...

It's the strangest feeling, so fascinating. Using Colorize to, well... colorize, but with paint. It's the most curious and somehow amazing feeling.
• pick something like a warm gray, around 60% brightness and FILL
• use Multiply to sketch something and possibly smudge the shading.
• then pick colors to colorize regions carefully and then smudge them carefully so as to not alter the shading itself too much.

This is just so ... sorry, if I repeat myself... but it's just fascinating.

Re: Vervette Fluid Sandbox...

the bg seems to have texture, you did that with the FILL??

Yes that colorize(overlay) approach seems cool, but it somehow reminds me to a traditional "grisaille"(painting in greyscale then overlay colors)
I'm most amazed by the way pigments and fluids interact with each other in an sort of digital alla prima process,
thinks like thin over thick painting, how the thin paint carves over the thick paint laid down on the canvas, how natural colors blend(eg yellow + blue = green), etc.
That is very hard to find in digital painting, and Verve almost got it, other painting packages don't get as much close to it as Verve does.

Re: Vervette Fluid Sandbox...

Ahahaha, I did a Fluids OFF pass at the end, with BLACK and SCREEN to get a tiny bit of texture on it. Works beautifully! Had I raised the entire background, I could've gone negative, too, creating an indented texture. Whereby, hmmm... I'm stupid, I could've just inversed the noise, too... DUH! :hihi:

Yes, Verve has the Chroma Smudge I have not yet put into Vervette. But I will put it there, too! This tries to blend colors chromatically rather than direct, allowing for more natural mixing. I'm still pondering over how I could best simulate subtractive pigments without making it feel contrived. That will still come, though! c:!

And, yes, this is like "grisaille" (that's what that's called? Cool!) ...I often do that and enjoy the simplicity of it. But it also teaches bad habits, I'm afraid, and I'll have to wake up to proper painting again after a while. Even now, working with colors can be challenging to me, despite all I know. It is truly challenging to me to work with values properly, if I haven't painted properly in a long time. And I have not! :PP  ...but I love starting again! :hyper:

Re: Vervette Fluid Sandbox...

Cool the one with the purple and green fluids Pilou
congrats

I'm getting more used to Vervette,
though I avoid zooming n changing brush size with hotkey space, I use the mouse for those instead cuz it's more secure.
is it has an eraser tool? I couldn't find in the manual.

Eraser = Opacity slider = 0 ;)
Is beautiful that please without concept!

a sort of in the middle between smudge and eraser,
thanks Pilou

Re: Vervette Fluid Sandbox...

Cool Pilou, I like the reflection on the ground.
seems to be some sort of utopic land.

Taron, dear friend, there's a thing I've found very intriguing in Vervette
In "Verve" and in any other painting app Mouse Scroll Down is zoom out, and Mouse Scroll Up is zoom in,
Which leads to "Shift Space Pen slide Up" to zoom in, and "Shift Space Pen slide Down" to zoom out,
"Verve" does it with "Ctrl Alt Pen slide Up or Left" to zoom in, and "Ctrl Alt Pen slide Down or Right" to zoom out, like any other painting app does (I mean the Pen slide part).
but in Vervette is the opposite, "Shift Space Pen Up" does zoom out, and "Shift Space Pen slide Down" does zoom in,
despite Mouse Scroll Down si still zoom out, and Mouse Scroll Up is still zoom in.
that contradiction is very very cumbersome. :PP why that change between Verve and Vervette?
I'm forced to do the navigation exclusively with the mouse.
Hope this info is useful.
