Everyone, what Graphics Card are you using?

Hi everybody,

I'm getting occasionally requests as to what kind of graphics card could be recommended for Verve. I myself used to run a NVidia Quadro 5000, which was truly a high-end card, even if it's now more than 4 years old already. I know for sure that that's not a necessity, so...

My current recommendation: Nvidia Gforce GTX 970 (price around 350 Euro right now (May 2015))

if you would be so kind, could you just reply to this post and tell us:
  • What graphics card are you using and how well or fast Verve runs for you? :geek:
  • Desktop or Laptop?
    ...and if you wanted to...
  • Encountered limits in resolution in Verve before it fails (black screen or crash) :o

That would be awesome! Thanks in advance! :ugeek:

List thus far...

Very good:
NVidia Quadro 5000 (desktop)
NVidia GeForce GTX 780 (desktop)
NVidia GeForce GTX 770 (desktop)
NVidia GeForce GT 720M (laptop)
NVidia GeForce GTX 560 Ti (desktop)
NVidia GeForce GTX 680 Ti (desktop)
Nvidia Geforce 460 (desktop)
Nvidia GTX 765M (desktop)
AMD/Ati Radeon HD 6800 (desktop)
AMD/Ati Radeon HD 6670 (desktop)
AMD/Ati Radeon HD 6770 (desktop)
AMD/Ati Radeon HD 7970 (desktop)
AMD/Ati Radeon R9 290 (desktop)

Pretty good:
NVidia GeForce 8800 GTS 512 (desktop)
NVidia GeForce GFX 550 Ti (desktop, I assume)
AMD/Ati Radeon HD 7700 (desktop?)

Ok:
NVidia Quadro 2000M (laptop)
NVidia GeForce 8600 GTS (desktop)

Works, but laggy:
Intel HD Graphics 4000 (laptop)
Intel HD Graphics 3000 (laptop)
NVidia GeForce 8400 GS (desktop)
NVidia GeForce GT 525M (laptop)
Here to help! :D

Nvidia Geforce 460 seems to run fine/fast.

GeForce GTX 560 Ti, runs Verve beautifully! No issues so far, other than my lack of talent!

Re: Everyone, what Graphics Card are you using?

Gave it a quick try on another system with the much less powerful GeForce 8600 GTS. Verve still performs well with a small to medium sized canvas. At higher resolutions it starts struggling. The main limiting factors appear to be canvas size and fluidity.

Re: Everyone, what Graphics Card are you using?

Thanks, pwicks! That's perfect testing! Yes, of course, Canvas size is overall relevant and the fluids are the most costly processes. If you set them to 0% this whole section will be skipped and even higher resolutions should be quite fast or even stunningly fast. The other matter is going to be graphics memory, of course. I'm storing all image data on the card itself, so... the more the merrier.

Thanks again, I hope there will come some more reports, too. I'm wondering about ATi cards now?!

Excellent, thanks Feiss!
I hope some more people can give a small report, too! It would really help! :geek:
Thanks in advance! :)

AMD Radeon HD 6800 Series in use at home; works flawlessly. I also have an ACER laptop, 2 years old, with an integrated graphics card (don't remember which) and even that is manageable, although the missing computation power is shown as a laggy mouse movement at canvas (I think).

Re: Everyone, what Graphics Card are you using?

Thanks, Etsija! That is shocking news, too! I totally expected laptops like that to be hopeless for Verve, but that's awesome!!! :D
And thanks for jumping on to this right away! :)

Re: Everyone, what Graphics Card are you using?

Just checked - my Acer laptop has an Intel HD Graphics 3000 integrated graphics card. And like I said, Verve is usable, albeit lagging.
