Yes, it truly looks as if some modeling material applied and formatted with fingers or something. Seems like you figured it out in verve, indeed. So now we know, that verve
gives also this expression style's potential in it. Style reminds of some funny, old-school clay stop-motion animation and even some shots from one short animated film about
fisherman and sea (based on Hemingway's story; this animated film was nominated for its style).

Was it difficult to tackle the correct dynamics and parameters of brushes for this?

It was sort of difficult actually. It required making a custom brush and setting the resolution, buildup, and fluidity just right. Then I exported the height map and used some AI contrast to tame some of the buildup. Finally, I brought it into Blender where I set up the lighting and such.

This is really awesome! Was the final render from Blender then? If so can you post the output from Verve? I'm curious how they compare.
