Re: dines sketch book

Holy Owl, this is MUCH BETTER! :bounce: c:!
GREAT!
You did leave out the curious feather bars that go across its beak, making the beak look a little bit like a totally stuffed tick, hahahaha, but DANG, this is such an instant evolution. I'm very, very proud of you already! Excellent! :hyper:
Also, great use of the brushes. The feathers do work quite beautifully. Once you dive even deeper into this one, you will notice even more broad changes in style across the owls face. Rather than instantly painting it, study it carefully, recognize things clearly and make yourself a little plan inside your head, so to say. Consider how the feathers lay on or stick out of the face/head. Feel it. You can practice how best to suggest the different orientations of the feathers, like those, which almost point at you versus those, which are flat on the surface. It's very, very 3D and requires you to consider that.

Maybe I'll make some examples later. It definitely makes me improve my Vervette brush parameters, hahahaha! :ugeek:

In Verve you also do have the image brush option, which could be fantastic for it, by the way. It's not about making "feather looking" brush images, but the sort of randomness that might help with them.

Re: dines sketch book

Thank you! I will need to look at image brushe for sure... have ignored them so far but could be a great addition especialy for textures.

Today I started to paint and followed the way it brought me ... and it became a little oriental city...kind of.... Its anoter exercise like the ones with light, shape, color, etc...

Re: dines sketch book

NICE! I like that a lot! At first I was afraid this was gonna be a "mature" subject, though...  :hihi: ....but then I recognized it as shroom-city, hehehe.
The tower that appears to be right behind the fire feels like it should be rather lit brighter than the others, but there's something really neat about how you have it. I can't quite recognize what sort of structure the first comes out of, but one doesn't have to know everything, right?! :D 8-)
The layout is good. Not perfect, but good. The fire should be a bit lower to try sitting on the golden spirals well, so to say. It would help create a more dynamic layout. But that's about it. Great stuff! c:!

Re: dines sketch book

Haha ... did not think of the nude work ... but in preview one could think .... hahaha ...

Today I tryed another one from reference... and I found it again on social media...it's from 1973 the launch of Skylab 1/Saturn V ... me thinking I spend too much time on social media anyway...

But this one brought again some challanges...

- I tried to think about the volume and the different colors and shadows how to make the cloud... but it looks like I did not found the right technique for clouds yet
- The rocket and the launch pad is a little off
- The water is ok, but not good...

but anyway here is my try for today ...

Re: dines sketch book

Well, you certainly brought the idea across and it's very recognizable. :ob
With the reflections in the water, just start off by really going straight down with the lights and later add some ripples over them. Watch the amount of illumination, too, how bright they are. Should sort of match what they are reflecting, at least proportionally, but the reference should make that most clear.

Clouds or smoke are always tricky and are not the same. The key there is figuring out a strategy by carefully examining the properties you can see. In your mind, erase the details and look the overall volume of it and how the light distributes inside of it. Tricky stuff, though... I did a tiny test in Vervette and even there I'd have to think of a better technique...

...bad!
I'll figure out a nicer approach later. A bit pressed for time right now.

Re: dines sketch book

I gave it another try. Still not really liking it. Tryed a diferent technique blocking with brush #1 very light and transparent and then working with smudge and painting with brush #3 ...Missing out on the fine detailed structure...

but here it is...

Re: dines sketch book

Getting better. However, this one is really annoying, because one can feel what has to be done, but it's a little deceiving, because there is at least one too many layers required to casually pull it off. But I might be wrong. ...I'll have to try it again later, too. :hyper: :PP
