Re: Expect the Unexpected

Thx Borhani :)

Here all I wanted was a simple marsh scene, maybe a frog or 2 chirping in the forefront, bats snagging mosquitos on the wind. The sudden splash of a big fish as it hits some lucky fisherman's hook and line :? I wonder if she is laying eggs

Re: Expect the Unexpected

High quality? oops! and some very small touch up and... Thanks Taron :) I think on some subconscious level I was thinking about Borhani's wonderful birds.

As the Professor and Andy strolled through a part of the bio environment section housed within the confines of the Hammer they came up on a closed area and inside was a creature that Andy, with his sense of compassion empathized with immediately.

"Why is he here by himself Professor? Why isn't he in the main part of the environment with the rest of them ?"

The Professor frowned and stared into the soulless eyes he knew so well, " Because it is dangerous Andy. One of the most dangerous entities I have ever run across and God help me, I hope it's the only one. It can't be killed Andy. At least not in any way I have ever tried."

"Where did you find it?"

"I didn't find it Andrew. It found me." The professor refused to talk about it anymore and moved on.

Thx Borhani!

Hmmm This particular thumbnail has been through a lot of transformations today while I try and learn how to paint lol Its had trees, mountains, various assorted shrubbery, boulders, cliffs and then to this much simpler transformation. And just for fun a quick symmetry. ;)

Re: Expect the Unexpected

The blue landscape is very lovely, Tartan.
Maybe one detail to focus on?

Valentines day pic is very interesting. That is the true verve quick fun!
Looking at the pics bottom part, I am remembered a bit more of an x-ray of something maybe used on Valentines day...later :D

Re: Expect the Unexpected

Thanks Knacki,

The blue landscape was fun but I agree that it needs a focal point. I save almost all iterations because it's instructive for me. These are mainly practice but I think it's time for me to move away from this particular method which is more suggestive (dreamy) of form. I think it's time to start bringing things into focus. I was horrible at painting and my second real art instructor agreed but urged me to keep at it. He would have been happy to see me trying now after all these years and he would have loved Verve. I spent most of my time sculpting and sketching back then when I was in his class. Here is an earlier version of the blue landscape which started looking decent in some parts. I am not in full control of my brushes yet but it is still good practice. I like your take on Valentines. I didn't see that til you pointed it out

Soon I will be doing some experimental looks at the possible synergy between Verve and Sculptris by importing backgrounds from Verve into Sculptris for different camera angles with some of my untextured sculpts and then painting over the sculpt and finishing the image in verve but I need a lot more practice at making landscapes and painting in general.

Re: Expect the Unexpected

I'm really impressed with your color choices, but it feels odd that you keep smearing like that?! It's a neat style at the end, or... a style... but puzzling, too.
Anyway, your color choices are outstanding and the way you capture light and atmosphere. Feels almost photographic and I sensed that with your first smudge-scape already. :| ...amazing! :)

Re: Expect the Unexpected

Smearing?
Isn't it all about naming to change the game, taron?
For me it is a very nice wet in wet watercolour look.
Really sweet looking.

So don't listen to him, tartan. He is just a master :D

Sculptris? Checkout to load the sculptris texture into verve. Overpaint it and save it with CTRL+s.
Now verve is saving two png's.
One for colour, one for bump ;)
Use this in sculptris, it's really fun.

Just made some tests yesterday in 3ds max again. Used the B&W map for displace instead of bump.
Very cool.
Even though I couldn't figure out, how to control the height of the b&w map in verve?
