Re: amazed by verve

That was one heck of an impressive collage of verve-paintings. You almost made a comic book there.
I don't know why but the first one in third row (from above), the orange-reddish men/woman either with something in his hand or over the dress stood out for me.
Those black & whites further below are also kind of great, especially one in middle - you see there some person with a book. That grainy look - how you actually pull that one off in verve?
Is it brush 3,4 or 5 with some bias settings? Style looks great to me - as if drawn with chalk powder and some pencil by art academy masters. Something that looks really traditional in very good way.

And drawing some friendly animals doesn't hurt anyone - i liked those elephants too ;) .

I love these! :D
I feel there could be stories behind these simple and bold strokes.

Re: amazed by verve

Hello my dear verve-o-nauts and -nautics,

thank you all for your nice comments! Very happy to read, that you feel the stories within these images. And that you like the elephants. =)

Sorry for replying took me so long, but I have quite an "unbalanced" time in (allmost) all areas of my life. Hopefully, there will be some perspectives soon.

Anyways, in reply to Intars' question I made a little demo-video (not a super brilliant image, but I hope the process is recognizable):

And here are the verve-files (version w.06 though), in case the settings would help you:

Image

http://imanic.net/stuff/forum_img/_charcoal_demo_template_01.vrs

(not quite sure what exactly is saved in vrv and vrs - so I saved both)

It's mainly brush #9, some playing' with the settings but nothing special, I guess. I think it is more how you handle it. Somehow I convince myself, that I have some dry drawing medium in my hands. The fact that you "read" it as charcoal brings a big smile to my face.

I play a lot with the brush-settings and now use them more intuitively than thinking about it, so it's hard for me to explain the choices. But verve is so deep, you always discover new things, relations, possibilities!

Re: amazed by verve

Very cool, pix! :ob
.vrs saves all settings, including brush settings (I think, haha, hmmm...it's been a while  :D )...but I believe, I have not yet added brush images, because I still have to finish all that.
However, vrv should save almost all you need with exception of those brush images, of course.

For charcole type stuff I would recommend using the = (equal) mode (hit [m] twice to toggle there!) . It will not continue to build up material beyond 1.0 unlike > mode (the default), which will continue to build up indefinitely and is more like paint.
Here to help! :D

Re: amazed by verve

Hey Taron,
thank you very much for clearing that – and that helpful extrahint about the equal-mode. Somehow it never disturbed me to use the standard-mode, probably because of the nature of the color black and that I didn't painted/drew over already black-areas too much.

A little idea for #9 came to my mind (if I may mention it here): Since the characteristic of the brush-stroke is heavily dependent on the bristels-percentage, it could be helpful to make a switchable link to the brush-size.

But I am sure you have soooo much cooler ideas up your sleeves ... I can imagine, you can get quite tired from users and their "little ideas". Hope it was ok anyways. =)

Best wishes and a deep thank you!

Re: amazed by verve

Oh, no, I never get tired of user ideas! In fact, it's really partially what it's all about for us to be here together. I just assume the position of trying to figure out what is really desired and see how best to realize such ideas in the context of Verve.
Some of the brushes already consider brush size for the amount of bristles used, making the "bristle count" parameter really a DPI type percentage as it is. But there is a limit of how many points I can comfortably draw at the same time, so there is a cap, so to say, to avoid the system to drop to its knees.
I'm still planning on elaborating on brush #6, which is not bristle based, in context with brush images. There's A LOT still left for me to manifest and it will get exciting again fairly soon! :hyper:
