One thing you should consider, especially with skin, is that the translucent layer of it spreads the light more evenly beneath the surface. That also goes for ambient or bounce light, which would result in far less harsh shadows, where ever light still spills over. Darker shadows would only be in real creases or spots where truly hardly any light can get to. The result is a more softer shading. Also to consider is the greasy specularity in certain places, which then would reflect light a bit more. Things to ponder and study. YOu'll totally get it! Just try to study carefully what you're looking at and always consider what ambient light your background suggests!

Thank you for your detailed feedback  . Contenplated and thought about it over the weekend. Studied some things on the web...
This is todays painting c:! c:! c:! Dailed back on the perspective and worked a little bit more on shading. :ud: c:! :ud:

Definitely skinnier! Very good progress! Piece by piece, things come together and I enjoy this almost analytical, elemental approach to learning. I'm very much like that, too, trying to understand and control specific traits such as what makes skin look like skin, but also the nature of proportions, the nature of light, shadow, bounce light and how substances respond to these things. It's a strong way of learning and studying, leading eventually to a great deal of independence.
There are of course other ways, too, which can be interesting and powerful, such as learning from the masters, learning specific techniques before getting to understand why they work or what they are supposed to do. But I, too, really prefer our way, the development of logical understanding. However, it's interesting to switch along the way and have a taste of the alternative approach, because one can learn from everything and anything, if you allow yourself to. :geek: c:!

Thank you so much! Yeah, to study is fun as well but sometimes also frustrating but maybe thats just my inpatience.
But I observed an amazing phenomen of Verve. Whenever things were painted the way they "should" be, Verve is very supporteive and forgiven as well. It's almost as Verve anticipates certain shapes and shades especially how build behaves (even if I do not use a lot of build). Always amazed by that.
Anyway ...Today I switched. Left out the color and focused more on perspective and shading. c:! c:! c:!

Great, yeah, there's a lot more going on now! Interesting expression, curious sense of meaning and a really great exploration! c:!
Yep, with Verve it has been quite tangible or almost tactile when it comes to paint and paint amount. Vervette has the same traits, but it's a little more forgiving for many reasons and makes painting even easier. You'll get to see it! Blending is just incredible in Vervette. Still a lot to do, though... :ugeek:
