Now with RTX-3060 power, Verve is hi-rez and soooo smooooth. 8-)

It's been a long time (again)... but I'm spread so thin these days.
Nothing like spending 20 minutes at lunch time to soak in some emotional healing from some digital expression.
I felt like the dark and gloomy clouds. But then the thought of cool rain led to even brighter thoughts - and then the bright blossoms took over. :ugeek:

MIKE, I've been thinking about you just the other day, wondering where you went?! SWEEEET! Congrats on the great card and the elegant painting! It's got a wonderful depth to it and such airy light. Very nice! c:!
While you have upgraded, I've lost my old machine due to power supply failure, but got a tiny new one in form of a miniPC with an AMD mobile card in it. It's surprisingly good, but Verve kinda brings it to its knees at any larger resolution... HOWEVER, Vervette seems to be no problem for it, which does get me rather excited.

Anyway, WONDERFUL to have you back!

Behold! My newest creation took me about three years!

I had this vivid dream early one morning. In it, I started off on the bottom floor of a lodge or picturesque visitor's center within some national forest or destination located in the Southwestern US. I was joined by a few other visitors and we were led up a two-part ramp (rather than a stairwell) which was wheelchair accessible. I remember the wooden interior design elements and the fact that the lodge was made from logs or had that kind of facade. We entered a men's restroom facility on the second floor.

Now, generally one has to pee when having dreams about odd restrooms but in this case, we were collectively aware of the historical and design importance of this place. The details were vivid and we toured each part of the room. At first we walked by the first window (it was on the west side of the room a closest to the entrance on left behind the 'render camera',) and the guide talked about the lavatory basins and the other fixtures as they were original and maintained even from their installation when this restroom facility was added to the lodge back in 1946.

The first thing that caught my eye were the beautiful painted murals on the north and east walls! There was a tiled pillar in the middle of the room which was adorned by native American cultural art. The guide then pointed out the array of chrome fixtures which complimented the bright Southwestern decor coloration of rusts, turquoise, purple and etc. The urinals and basins were custom made for the lodge and had glazed recessed pin striping, and on the urinal was a notable protrusion in the vitreous porcelain which carried the lodge seal emblem. The toilet stalls were opened and we talked about the large murals and the late tribal artisan who hand-painted most of the murals in the lodge.

One of the stalls had a construction scaffold within it as this was one of the off-seasons where the historical landmark would have restoration work. So the restrooms, I was told, were usable by patrons during open months and there was usually an attendant. I studied the hand dryers which were on the strangely geometrically shaped center pedestal. As we walked to the center of the room, looking south, there was an opening in the floor with a temporary metal safety banister which was a utility shaft that lead to the boiler room in the basement two floors below as they could do repairs without going through the main hall and dining area.

There was a shower room to the side with three stalls and a small wet changing room included. The southeast corner of the room had a raised stage with a wooden banister (which I omitted for composition,) a changing bench and the walls were lined with wooden lockers (not depicted.) I also took a good look at the ceiling which was lined with galvanized paneling, supported by timbers. There were fluorescent light fixtures and ceiling fans.

I wondered about portraying such cultural appropriation from native American culture, but I did indeed see these things in my dream and in the dream, the caretakers respectfully maintained the artistic legacy of the local tribal workers from that early era despite the lodge and bathrooms being adorned with borderline kitschy and whimsical iconography tailored for commercial tourists.

Okay, so the room was such a neat site to see in my dream, I had to take notes and keep a mental note of all I saw.

I started to Verve up the murals and wasn't pleased with them on my first try, because frankly, the reference murals really existed - as they could - in my visual memory, so it was not prudent to invent something new.

I then set out to create the room - which was basically a glorified frame for my verve art - and I began the process of learning and fine-tuning my skills in Blender. Most objects were modeled in both Moment of Inspiration and Blend in about equal portion. The only pre-fab objects are the cacti, the water pitcher, some rocks, the wicker basket and the original form of the photoscanned logs that trim the room. Those plus many textures obtained from Poliigon.

I picked and fretted over every little detail to bring this dreamscape to life and felt I had to model most objects. Many parts including the flush valves, the hand dryers and hand soap dispensers actually exist in real life (from the 1940's era). The first two years were a struggle as I lacked a powerful enough PC and I put the project on hold for a long while as I was unable to further manipulate the scene. As I've now upgraded a little at work, the last year has allowed little bits of design time after some days at work.

The two Verve painted murals depict common 1940's "old west" scenery, the north wall mural with four 'indian' war party leaving their camp and the east wall mural depicting a cowboy tending to a lost foal, both in the valleys of colorful desert mesas.

See, I still Verve... but this one requires me to rest a bit. ;)

W O W !!! :o
Mike, that's incredible. And WELCOME BACK, again!
And a fantastically inspiring story. Nope, I don't have to pee right now. :hihi: ...but, really, absolutely inspiring. That kind of patience and persistence can only come from you and is staggeringly rare and utterly amazing.
Thank you very, very much for sharing this here and I'm, of course, thrilled you've used Verve for those murals. You should post those here, too, by the way! c:!

Brilliant work and congratulations on your achievement with this one. Flipping outstanding! :bounce:
