Re: A little musical intermission...

Hi Lemivision and Taron, thanks for your time to listen and comment ! I really appreciate your kind words my friends ;)
Taron, "Je veux la clé du télébenne" uses voices sampled from a thriller/drama movie called "Sursis pour un vivant" with actor Lino Ventura.

I've just had a look on Lemivision's work: very relaxing music ! Indeed you like dreamy string pads, so do I, and you're good at it. "That's why" is very well crafted but not the style I like the most, so my preference goes for "Dawn" and "Lost Memories". "Lost Memories" is a pleasant ballad with a peaceful mood on a classic chord progression, all instruments are well chosen and i like the tempo and rhythmic track. At 1:12, I would have maybe stopped the string pad, to let the nice outro going with no harmonic highlights, it would have got even more impact I think. In "Dawn", i like in particular the way you gently introduced the chord change at 0:53, nice move, vibrant and delicate !

Regards
GBoGBo

Ohh, thank you GboGbo for your effort to comment my pieces!! You gently described what you like and didn't. I am very lucky for your kind words and suggestion!

Nevertheless I don´t want to steal this beautiful Taron's thread. Taron's Synthilia, yeah, I like this song. It contains little bit of sadness at the first listen. But I know this song for years and behind this piece I can see man and woman they are waiting for each other and big love...

Flyby, another good one! Maybe I tend to prefer songs with the synthetic sounds? It looks like the computer era drains my feeling for natural sounds..

Re: A little musical intermission...

Ehehe, I'm totally happy we all are jumping on this with our music and this thread totally belongs to all of us! ;)

I'm having the same affliction, Lemi, having been around computer music for 28 years, even making it that long already. I think, when I make pure synth music, there's passion in every aspect of it, a real joy in every sound, every track and every measure. Working with complex sample-based instruments always makes me feel a little...hmmm...like a vulture somehow, as if I''m taking advantage of others, playing with some sort of taxidermy creature. It's amazing, but I'm worried that I don't pay attention to their true nature enough, like I don't know the whole depth of what they offer.
I do like to be fully responsible for my music. So much so that I can't wait to write my own little DAW, hehe, but that'll be a long time until then.

My old Reason tracks (like flyby and synthilia) do still bring me joy, when ever I take the chance to listen to them, but then there's something about the sound of reason that just bothers me... it's just kind of coarse, the snyths, rigid and a little stale. It just lacks depth in both directions; warm and cold. It just hangs somewhere in the middle. Pity, because other than that I used to love it very much. Now it' has managed to become one of the most opportunistic platforms of them all, something I just can't really support. Another big pity.

Re: A little musical intermission...

Taron, after I heard your song Promise of a sunrise several times I can say for sure, yeah, this is very elaborated and really faithful orchestral song with such a nice main motive!
I really like the start and parts when the string come (0:12, 0:58). The flute part about 0:33 is great too!
Flute instruments and strings sound really vivid and natural! Oboe instruments (or trombone?) sound little bit artifical at 1:08 but I know it is very difficult to get all so live..

This master work really deserves live orchestra! I wish you it, Taron.

Overall very good calm soundtrack song that fits for the slow and emotional moments! c:!

I am looking forward to your next master piece! I am really glad I met you and your multitalent inside you..

Have a nice day for you and all here!

PS
Regarding Reason from Propellerhead. I still have the older version 4 or 5 on my computer (including your rps songs :)) and sometimes I feel such a pressure inside me to start new song with Reason. I really loved all buttons, gadgets and back side. But I understand you don´t like the way the Reason is going now..

Re: A little musical intermission...

Thanks, Lemi! Now I've been programming again, haha, bouncing around...or rather rolling around, considering my energy levels, but yeah...I had to do a touchscreen version of Verve (older special version), but it's really curious to have all 10 fingers paint, haha! Anyway, that's not the topic here. I'm sure I'll make some more complete orchestral sketches very soon, too. My head's just all over the place for some reason. :? :p

I now really think, Reason has been more of a gateway to practice all the disciplines, but it never quite overcame its limitations enough. Back in the early days I suggested to them to make a web player for reason songs, but they behaved as if offended, replying that Reason was not a toy. I couldn't believe the foolishness of such a reply. They could've said "no" or "we don't want to", but to think that reason was not a toy...hmmm....especially back then!
They basically ripped the charm of it right out.
Once you start working with VST hosts, everything starts to feel more professional, more polished and pretty near unlimited. It sure doesn't feel as easy and compact as Reason, but even in something as "crude" as MuLAB you only gain opportunities and lose nothing.
Here to help! :D

Re: A little musical intermission...

Hey, I was just in the mood for experimenting with a few other synths, namely reaktor in this case and a few other old ones... it's nothing much, but it's been very relaxing, that's for sure:
A Harmless "What if"
Mix is a little harsh, I'm afraid... don't feel like noodling around on it right now, but well... just a sketch anyway.

Re: A little musical intermission...

Very nice blend of synthetic (i.e. the kind of nylon string guitar heard since the beginning) and natural instruments, rich arrangement and perfect drumming as usual, maybe a bit far with the reverb (to my taste, but it works). The variations on the repetitive melody is delightful. The overall composion is evocating to me images of funny and mischievous little creatures living in peace in a pre-industrial era.

Re: A little musical intermission...

Yeah, I goofed around with the reverb a little much. I've compared a few different reverbs. Valhalla is pretty nice, really. Still gotta get myself into it all again, though. It's quite chaotic.
THANK YOU, of course, very sweet. Yeah... some "what if" thoughts are like mischievous creatures for sure!

The "guitar" is from a Reactor synth called "Steampipe". Somehow it spoke to me the most at that moment. Curious sound.
