Just curious Taron....is there a technical reason for this no direct colour mixing by movement....why does it work so well with smearing but not paint on paint.
Seems like a curious omission and Im surprised I havnet seen it mentioned in any posts.

And yes I have played with the Hue variation per bristle dial on brush 9 and it is lovely.....I just think it would add alot to have the option to add it per stroke too.
Sort of emulates the way a brush picks up colour and produces subtle colour variations while painting.

Re: Suggestions

Ahahahaha, wunderbar, hehe! :D
THANKS, Stavros! Oh man, that is something I tried very, very early on already and it has some cool effects, but it makes it very difficult to work with it. I could later on have different kind of paint material, for example, where you could choose to have that effect. But by default it really wouldn't make anyone happy, I'm afraid. But that is part of the cool prospect for Verve, that you can have control over the paint substance, but you're not locked to any specific application method (brush, pen, chalk or the likes). It'll be a bit weird here and there, but I think we should not shy away from transcending tradition! 8-)

Re: just colour

I can understand how that could get messy…..
However it is a natural expectation of transparent fluid media
Especially for translucent natural paints like Alizarin Crimson

I find myself wanting to be able turn the volume(thickness build up) off and just play with the pure fluid watercolours.
But there does not seem a way to do that currently. If I turn build up dial down to zero I get no paint applied to empty canvas.
Would you consider making the zero position on build up dial….apply colour only….no volume...…just colour
( I realize the zero position still applies colour if there is already paint on the canvas….basically like colourize)

I also realize I can turn layer bump off too…but then you don't have the option to mix in thick paint.
thnx

Re: Monetary Compensation

Taron
Please provide some kind of donation method for those of us who would like to support your development efforts.
Don't make me beg! Please lol
I understand your desire to make the world a better place and to keep Verve free and accessible to all and that is wonderful noble thing!
And I hope you have a very strong backbone when Adobe wakes up and sees the potential of what you are doing and offers you bazillions of dollars for your baby.
But until then please provide a means for those of us who would like to support your efforts with a modest donation. Seriously. Please. Enough already!
Just think Taron…. you get a thousand people around the globe throwing a hundred bucks ( tank of gas) at your development once a year….you can give up the day job and eat breathe sleep Verve LOL!
Besides…..Im starting to fell guilty…..especially when I make a request :)

BTW
This unconventional business of sharing every step your development with us is extremely exciting!@#$%
( if not overwhelming and confusing at times…because you say so little about your mysterious incremental upgrades :)
I find myself scrambling daily to check your site for news, updates, breakthroughs, features…my wife thinks Im addicted…and she's right.
Thanks for having the courage and the gumption to do that. I feel like Im inside your head listening to your inner dialogue
and it is a wonderful crazy thing to witness another artists creative process.
Especially when it is married to all this magical technical wizardry!
Ahhhh there you go
Your a wizard!

Re: Suggestions

Ahaha, man, Stavros, you're too much and too awesome! My regards to your wife, too, for putting up with it... imagine my poor wife, hahaha. But over the last 25 years she kinda found a way to forgive me, hahaha! :?
Well, how about you make a little "Taron Donation Piggy" and put some into it every now and then until I have found a decent way to organize official donations. I just don't know, yet, how to setup all the legal aspects of that and don't want to step on anybody's toes or fins, considering the sharks on whose backs we're strapped as society. :o
And, yeah, I'm yours, you know, it's what I have understood we all are to each other, whether we know it or not, and I find it easiest to be an open book so you can get more than just some puzzling results every now and then, hahaha, but also the puzzling process responsible! :D :ugeek:

I do love your calculation, but I'm already scared of the dry reality that may present itself to me, once I even begin to consider any hope for gratitude beyond a hearty praise, you know. As long as I can keep the love I put into all this as unconditional as it is right now, I'm willing to accept a way for opening those gates for donations. But, yeah, I'm a tiny bit scared for sure.

Also, don't ever hold back, if something is on your mind, if you have any ideas or requests... fire away, fire away! If I can weave it in, I will. Right now things are still evolving in their foundation, which is why certain things I have to hold back a little in order to figure out how they will fit with where I'm headed with it all. But you know all that already, I think...since you're in my head an all! :D 8-)

If anything, you're certainly in my heart already! ;) Thank you very much, Stav! 8-)

Re: Suggestions

FYI…
we JUST had a baby 6 weeks ago
It is a crazy beautiful thing!
We considered naming him Taron…I kid you not!
We don't sleep much yet and I am stuck at home ALOT
So I take refuge in your website….so to speak.
My wife will catch me and ask….ARE YOU VERVING?
Verving?
You see it has now become a verb!
As it should be

Re: Suggestions

WAHHH: CONGRATULATIONS!!! :D
I feel VERY honored for your consideration for sure! :)
And I dig: Verving! For sure! 8-)
I certainly would not want to keep you from your diaper-duties, hehehe, but I'm thrilled the lil' one grows up with ART all around him! :D That's fantastic!
6 weeks ago...hmm...that makes him a pretty one for sure, too. Early to say, but teach him to be courteous and loving, knowing that he's in a world that changes to what we represent as humans and not just how we react, whether it's appreciation or anger. It is how we act based on what we can offer to the world. But for the next few years he'll be firmly planted on the receiving end of love and forgiveness, hahaha! :D
Congratulations, again, I'm very happy for all you three! I take it he's the first!?

Viva la Verve

Yes he is our first!
and quite probably our last
as we are late in years to the parenting party.
I am an artist and musician
My wife is a jeweller goldsmith
We are both self employed
He is now a gem…..when he grows….
He'd better shine like a diamond
and bring harmony to the world
and make lots of money (since we don't)
Or else ! ( we will abandon him like we did our poor cat :( sorry Kitty )
I have already sworn him off technology ( except for wood blocks )
But I will allow him to Verve should he so desire :)
My apologies for hijacking this forum with personal fodder
Now where were we
Ahhhh yes
Let there be Verve
A wonderful name by the way
We still have not chosen one for our son…hmmmmm….
Verve?
VERVE!
It has such swagger!
Lol
OK
enough of that!
Back to the business of creating the ultimate painting software!
Viva la Verve!
:)

Re: Suggestions

Oh, pffff, fodder, shmodder, it's a free world in here (oh such a precious place) so, if you feel like sharing awesomeness like the lemony fresh human being you two have created, I insist you do! :D
If it gets too personal, just email me! ;)

Oh, and don't hold back to post a portrait of your son, man! 8-)

As for "Verve", yeah, I was trying to think of what word could best describe the whole thing and most words are either used already or just too darn corny. Then I stumbled upon "verve". Pronouncing it I thought was almost ugly in a way, but somehow I just could not resist. It does sound like a wet burp, that's for sure, or some toad in heat  ...but hey, if it works for the female frogs!? 8-)
So, hmmm, yeah, I don't think I'd call my kid Verve, hahaha...it be in a world of punishment for that! :?
