Re: Inspirations

LOL, I was just gonna say: That looks totally like Beksinski...uh...uhm...maybe I should look at the NAME of the link, hahahaha. Wow, what a fancy website they gave him.
The poor guy, man. He was an awesome artist, but he got killed by a home invasion in the 90's or so, totally random. Curious fate. Anyway, the website and sound make it seem even more sinister than it has to be. I've got a book, I think Grzesiek Jonkajtys gave it to me as a gift at some point, which so totally blew me way as a wonderful gesture. I hold that book still dear to my heart and can't wait to find it again ( moving across half the world can do that to you!).

Anyway, yeah, his work has been massively influential on many current digital artists, even though Beksinski's digital art had nothing to do with it, hahaha...well...but at least he did embrace it! Would've been so cool to see where he could've taken it. :(

Thanks for the link, Lemi! :ob

Re: Inspirations

For practicing with the calligraphic pen emulation of Verve, look at these sweet Calligraphy Animals by artist Andrew Fox :

Re: Inspirations

Hi guys and girls,
Have you thought of Google Street View as photo reference for digital paintings ?
Well, if you don't know it, let me introduce to you the Virtual Plein Air facebook group :
https://www.facebook.com/groups/290155717818479/

Many contributors are great and inspiring !
The principle is simple, let's take for instance this Street View somewhere in Slovenia:
https://maps.google.com/maps?ll=46.7373 ... ic&dg=ntvo
then you come out with this:
http://scontent-b-cdg.xx.fbcdn.net/hpho ... e=55379FB7
(painting from Alexander Forssberg‎).

I have captured the screens of this example:

I love watching this group and I'd like to see Verve paintings there soon !

regards,
GBoGBo

Re: Inspirations

Yeah, virtual plein air is such a brilliant idea! Dan did that already a while back with Verve:

He's done some exceptional paintings. I really wished he would come back here, too. I miss'em already! :|

Re: Inspirations

Thx Taron, now i remember that i saw this thread... Breathtaking work ! So Virtual Plein Air counts at least two verve paintings, and memorable ones.
Dan has his own site http://www.inetgrafx.com/ and is also active on DeviantArt : http://inetgrafx.deviantart.com/
I suppose it is hard to escape to Photoshop once you have refined your workflow with it so deeply through the years.

Re: Inspirations

I'm certainly trying to make Verve a pleasant transition, but it still needs some basic functionality that artists really want to use such as quick and elegant color correction, lasso masks and such. A lot of the rest I already have, but I'm changing a few other fundamental things in Verve that are tricky, yet, pretty cool, I believe! :D ...more about all that in another thread, though! ;) :ugeek:

Re: Inspirations

I've been using Google street view a bit for inspiration,... it's quite nice to browse around with. That artwork Dan did is breathtaking, and I really wish he would come back too!

Oh, and that calligraphy fox is awesome!
