1- normal mode / paint with big & white / full bump / shift + page up light / HQ (AA) off / metallic full ...
2- warp mode ... try wash colors! ...
sorry Pilou! i have said the summary almost ... and i cant remember the detailes now. you have to figure it out yourself.

grid tutor:
open Verveh
res 800*600
brush #2
brush size 5000
bump 100 (for black border lines)
hold shift page up to end light (for black & withe style)
metallic 100 (for black)
high quality off (for pixels)
fluidity 0
opacity (e) on - w/r off
fill the canvas with brush
ctrl+w (warp mode)
brush #1 or #6
set color opacity 50 (for slow)
[*] shift drag all colors to out of canvas (white) / (or ctrl+shift, that is faster)
hold ctrl and drag for grid ( more for smaller squares) / (or ctrl+shift for bigger squares)
for undo or different test go to [*] again
for warped grid use smaller brush
and test zoom in
open Verveh
