Damn fine job Knacki and clean. It reminds me of the better naturalists of the 1800's.

Another winner! You have been on a brilliant roll this time Knacki. This would make a great illustration for an article in Smithsonian magazine c:!

Uhhh, thank you very much, Tartan.
Well, therefore I should free myself a bit more from references. But you are right. All that I learned last days will help a lot.

Re: With verve into the light

Thank you very much guys.
An interesting fact is, that I almost never used smudge (only for background) or equalize. Same with the rat.
As smudging destroys the presens of the canvas and smudges :) instead of paint, it disturbes the overall look
Sure, after smudging one can paint over to give it some canvas structure, but it won‘t be the same.
A plus of this „technique“ is, that it gives you freedom in your tool choice and still preserves an organic look.
Anyway, those last pictures were 100% verve, as verve has this extra sophosticated note.

Re: With verve into the light

Hm, that sounds weird to me. Guess it depends on how you use smudge. Do it right and it increases not just control over colors, but the sense of realism. Of course, it depends on what medium you favor. If you go for watercolor type looks, smudge won't be as easy to use, than if you went for oil or acrylic type paints. But how it would destroy the presence of the canvas...?! ...that needs more explanation, I think. :geek: OOOOHHH, hmmm...I think, I know what you mean, but that really depends on your technique. Danged, I should make new videos. ..but, really, do it right and the smudge will actually reunite your color with the canvas texture. Also always consider using erase properly, if your paint became to thick. One of the few advantages of not having actual layers of paint is that you can keep your top color as you erase the material a little bit.
Also, never be shy to paint with 0% build-up, after you have enough material on the canvas. This will avoid strange thicknesses that bury the canvas texture too early.

Re: With verve into the light

Thanks very much, taron.
Never mind. I know you are a smudge lover, same with me for most works.
But last ones should have had a more pencil style.Real tooltip pencil, no smudging at all.
I was surprised how nicely this works.
I love verve, you know that.
But sometimes it's good to know some techniques where you are not missing verve all the time.

This is 100% verve again. With fluids, smudging and all the fun.
