I had to share this! c:! "Christmas Memory"

Yes, I know, a little early for Christmas but I have to get the cover art for my newsletter out of the way.
I've still got 1/3 of the page at the bottom to paint, but this portion is more important.
It's a rendition of my late father introducing me to electronics with this kit one Christmas day when I was 8 or 9.
I remember how excited I was to try it out and to this day I'm an avid electronics enthusiast and radio operator.

The entire painting is 100% Verve, except I did use a very rough pencil sketch for layout and other eye-balled examples and the rest is from memory...
I have no (or very very few) available photos of me or my dad from my childhood.
I started this one a 5 pm (est) today and it's now about 9 pm. The plaid and lighting details were done with the help of Verve's (+) and (-) layer attributes.

Re: Artwork de K4ICY

Hmmm..."Erector" sounds like a very different product   ...but before I spoil the beauty of this topic: This is heart-warming for sure! It reminds me how Christmas must've been before I went completely numb to it for some reason. It triggers these faint memories, including the smell of the tree and the general atmosphere. Except, my family...hmmm...it always was quite an aggressive night, as everyone was somehow in terrible suspense, my sisters prepared to fight for who's getting the most and who controls the potentially following games, my mother yelling around, trying to get all the food prepared and delegating everyone around, loads of cleaning and getting ready for visitors like my grandfather with whom we had to play some tunes... the old piano that couldn't be tuned anymore so the violin of his went down to the piano's tune, but one couldn't tune recorders, hahahaha.... speaking of nightmares... well...all in all, I think my numbness to it came out of self-preservation, hahahaha! :P

Anyway, I'm happy for you, having such wonderful memories, Mike, and bringing them across so sincerely! :)
Here to help! :D

Re: Artwork de K4ICY

Thank you all! :)

Ah yes, Pilou - the radio kits were my favorite!

Christmas was one of the only two times a year we'd drive the three hours to my (maternal) grandparents. Things weren't always civil with us kids (4) but just being there was a special occasion for us. The family dynamic is different now and it may just be me, my mom and two of my siblings together for dinner. I just might have a slight chance I'll see my five kids too if my ex grows a kind heart.

I've updated a more completed version...
The crochet stocking is one my grandmother made, so it added a personal touch... also the Radio Shack Space Cadet Walkie-Talkies because they rocked.
I wanted to add a little more detail but Verve got verrrry slooow. :?:
