Re: Dev Diary

To test the perspective I was copying some images from the web, not knowing how big they would be. Suddenly I had a 3100x5600 picture in Verve and it actually worked! :o
Granted, it was scary as heck, but wow... didn't really expect it to work at all, let alone grab sections of it and distort them and PAINT WITH THEM, hahahaha... unreal. I'm kinda thrilled, of course. :D

Re: Dev Diary

It's getting there... found the most annoying little troubles that kept me rolling around for a while... sorted out some different brush cursor displays, which isn't as trivial as one might think. All the little things. Automatic procedures to minimize confusions and on and on...

BUT I've just doodle around for a test and turned the drying speed all the way up with now FINALLY makes AMAZING sense! O M G, I'm telling you! Look at this...although it may not look like much to you, I find it stunning. It has the fluid smear, but retains crispness really making fantastic use of the new brush. I've just now stumbled across this, so this is really exciting stuff. Can't wait to explore that more, but I'm beat for tonight... :|

Re: Dev Diary

Uh, I'm still cleaning house and it's getting really even more interesting/exciting. I've finally written my own text display, which should be quite a bit faster and prettier. It's all in preparation for input, too, like entering values or giving names to items. However, that's still some ways away.
I've just tested how small a brush image can be to still look kinda nice, because I'm really afraid you guys will start posting 30mb brush image sequences or more, hahaha...and it's bound to happen, it truly is! However, I made a rather small brush at 16kb, which can still produce quite amazing textures! They don't have to be big at all! I'll post examples later, too...

I think, I'm getting ready to go at the interface blade for the brush image management. Hopefully I get it to be as nice as I envision it, while still being useful for the true GUI that is still to come. Right now it might be a little underwhelming for you, because the current GUI has not changed much at all. But the plan I have for the big, new one is quite exciting in itself. It'll be very, very different, though...so you may get a little "scared" or thrilled, who knows. But not now...so... be ready to not be shocked about the next release in GUI regards. But the new powers.... oooooohhhhhhh.... they change pretty much everything. It's a whole new paradigm for absolutely sure! :o :D

Re: Dev Diary

Hey Fox, I'd love to make that happen, but I'm scared of it! I did a little bit of research and people seem generally terrified by the PSD format including one my dearest friends, who dealt with it briefly. Since I'm writing Verve with BlitzMax, I'd have to somehow not only wrestle PSD in its native environment, but translate that into Verve's world as it is now. Again, I'd love to, but it'll have to wait a moment. Ideally I'll sooner have Verve at a state where you don't want to start up photoshop anymore, hahaha...ha...eh... I'm kinda kidding.

THANKS, though! ;)

Re: Dev Diary

Hello dear Taron, maybe an alternative would be also the *.XCF format, it supports layers very well too and its opensource, because this format is using by gimp and krita ;) maybe better like *.PSD? Or *.TIF, but TIF is maybe not so fine? http://www.mediengestalter.info/forum/9/arbeitsdateien-als-tiff-mit-mehreren-ebenen-oder-als-psd-108353-1.html

Re: Dev Diary

I will have a close look at other formats eventually. Thanks for the link and the suggestion. I've never heard of XCF before. Simply out of solidarity I should hook that up, haha! :D

Re: Dev Diary

Even Inkscape did support XCF c:! - maybe OpenRaster is also good ... but I know, you have made a good choice c:!

Re: Dev Diary

HAHA! Oh man, I've just added the ability to use those images for brush#9, too. Each bristle gets pixel it would occupy on the brush images. What's really funny/funky is when you oscillate the bristles, because it then - as one might expect- oscillates the pixel of the images, hahaha. It's very, very fascinating and pretty cool! 8-)
I'm basically crawling forward with the interface, though...it makes me ponder over a new GUI system, which takes a bit more time. It's kind of fun, though... emphasis on "kind of".
