Re: Dev Diary

Looks great! A brush that really benefits with depth. I still need to play with an environment scene. Being able to use your brushes to make trees and bushes begs me to try.

Re: Dev Diary

Thanks guys! :D
Yeah, you'll go nuts with the image brush, especially for things such as vegetation. It's ridiculously easy to fill up a landscape with pretty sophisticated trees and stuff. Well, just about as sophisticated as you make them. Since you can make any amount of images, you can make 10 trees with 20 bushes and go to town with a single stroke!
That's another reason for why I'm hooking up that you can alter the sequence to your liking.
I also realized that I could have the "IMAGE BOARD" be the place you import images into, like jpg or png or even the clipboard, actually. I'm really looking forward to being done with that, too. It's still a bit of a rocky road ahead.
Also I need to finally resume my brush-type (class), which will then be a generic container for any brush settings that you can then also assign to the # keys yourself.
The biggest of all changes could become a fundamental improvement to the paint logic. I'm not sure, yet, and it'll take a test run for you guys, once I'm done with a first round, because it may make things quite a bit slower or at the very least ask for more memory on the card. We shall see... if not, I just keep it as it is, because it's really nice now, if you asked me. I added this sub-sampling for the fluids, which makes them sooooooo oo oooo creamy. :P  ...and I did some speeding up of one section at the cost of processing at another, but it should balance out nicely.
I really don't know how well it will run for everyone...but I have some good hopes. :)
Here to help! :D

I don´t affraid of the future of Verve :) It is in your good hands and I am pretty sure you will set the logic in a good way!

Re: Dev Diary

:ob sound good, very good. And for own Brushes, is ita also possible (in the future) to create also own fractal brushes? Creating brushes like flames in APOPHYSIS*, because you did call your brush #8 as an fractal brush? It would be safe memory ... thats a plus, but not so good, you need to be good in very high-mathematics and scripting?!

:ob

I remember, that I did have see some pictures in APOPHYSIS and they did loook like leafes, mushrooms and so on ;)

Re: Dev Diary

oh... holy crap, you want me to write a ...no, no, nnooooo don't do this to me!!! :PP I shall resist the temptation!
You know, there has to be some sort of roof to what Verve will be...and I think, an engine to write custom GL shaders without people knowing they do would kind of explode the boundaries of what Verve can be allowed to offer. :ugeek: (Or can't it?!)

Well, anyway, I've got bigger fish to fry right now as I'm really still struggling to organize my thoughts. I want to scrap 90% of Verve and start from scratch to have a clean go, but then I'm too impatient and want to see you guys have some fun with the new stuff. It's sooo, sooo wild.
I think, I'll just wrap up the image interface so it's usable without all the wild gymnastics I'm ok with, hahaha. :? ...
I might also hook up some easy access buttons for tablet users to clear the image and some stuff that is a pain in the butt with hotkeys on a tablet.
The drawback will (or would) be that the file formats will change and I don't want to guaranty that things will stay the same... not sure, yet. Maybe I'll write a converter or so, too...just in case.
But we shall see!
Here to help! :D

I kinda feel like I'm up for a jogging trip after 20 years of sitting still, you know. I think, I'm quite certain, I'm only getting started just now.

Re: Dev Diary

Hi Taron, I was thinking about the thoughts and comments you mentioned. It is totaly understandable that it is such a difficult decision for you what to do next. Many ideas, many features.. Is it better to use some parts of Verve engine and interface with some modification or to create all new modules and start almost from scratch? I thought it is possible to help you and suggest some directions :geek: but I think it is impossible for me (for us) :) Only you know what to do with Verve and only you know all code behind.
Nevertheless if you want to support iPads for the future it would be maybe good to have simple start interface with only some buttons and after mouse hovering on the requested button (or finger tip) more options can show.
What about the following new interface? Ha? :D
Legend (from top):
- big button + small ones - pick color and color settings + settings for fluidity
- green button - shows advanced brush settings including animation settings you mentioned earlier
- blue - select custom brush 1
- pink - select custom brush 2
- yellow - shows canvas settings + scene settings
- black - shows generall settings (load, save, ..)
- dark green - shows layers and their settings
:D
