Re: Last version

made another small update to brush#6. BRISTLE SIZE now allows gaps based on brush size. Have BRISTLES on 100% for perfectly relative gaps. BRISTLES only controls a constant gap, ignoring the brush size, thus I'm wondering, if I should not just toss that one and only have BRISTLE SIZE instead... ...anyway, it's really nice! :)

Re: Last version

What im missing in verve now is just ability to use reference images easily, for eexample set transparency of reference image layer to 50% or some other value to make it lose contrast so i can draw over it on another layer. Also ability to paste reference image onto canvas and move/scale it to liking.Maybe new type of reference layer would be better suited for this? So you would have overlay picture as layer and you could scale it ,move it in all directions and set its transparency + pick colors from it.Now i kinda have to setup my own reference image with object/character on left to draw over it and its copy on right so i can look at it.
Normally in other software i would just open reference image, draw over it to get the form and shape, then move it to the side to look at it and paint everything my shadows/highlihts etc.Maybe theres some other way to use reference image with semi transparency?
Im new so maybe someone is using reference images in verve somehow , i would like to know whats the best workflow for it :)

Re: Last version

I still have to hook up deformation to images like scaling and all that, but not only can you load an image into a layer and dial down the opacity of it, but you can always sample colors from outside of Verve by just holding [Alt] in case you didn't know that?! :geek:
Also, although a little weird, you could grab an image as brush image and scale and rotate it to your liking with Brush#10, then paint it on an extra layer on top and do the opacity adjustment mentioned above to that layer.
I've been thinking about the potential ability to simply turn Verve transparent so you could literally paint over anywhere, but I don't know, yet, how to do that... ...I do know that it works, though! It's a little tricky with BlitzMax.

Re: Last version

Hi bwwd, some time ago I found and used a freeware called Foreground Reference Utility that displays a reference image semi-transparently on the foreground with full access to the application in background :

Re: Last version

By the way I just tried brush #6 of latest v17...
Impressivily quick ! and I noticed that high fluidity + low BUILD UP + low BRISTLES + canvas gives beautiful watercolorish effects !
Also, without releasing the mouse/stylus, you can press several times N until the new color of your wishes shows up, then mix it with the one already on canvas !
Thanks for these improvements Taron : :ob

Just 2 questions :
- is it on purpose that Bias 0 gives sharpest contour ? it was at Bias 100% on old brush #6 :?:
- is it possible to be able to leave paint with a simple click mouse without needing to move it ? It was like that on old brush #6 and this property was VERY useful (at least for me, e.g. for automated stippling)

Re: Last version

GREAT!

- Oh, no, bias is still just temporary. It's sloppy. Go to 99% and you'll see, hehehe... I'll fix that!
- ugh, ye...it's a little tough, but I'll give it a try to make sure that works again, too. Thought it did.

HHhhmmmm.... download again and tell me how it feels! 8-)

Re: Last version

Im sorrry Taron i feel like an idiot  , i didnt realize that i can set opacity for each layer separately, i dont know why i was thinking i cant do it or something :? , i think i didnt experiment with layers that much... i tried to use reference image as brush to resize it but its hard to capture it cause you have to move these 4 points independently and its kinda hard to create square that wont be stretched, unless there is some way to lock aspect ratio/proportions to enlarge that square which captures brush image.

Re: Last version

hmmm i was working with 2 layers switching back and forth between them by turning first layer on and off and verve crashed in the middle of drawing, its second time in the row now , i didnt saved, simply lost my work, it never happened before so , i was working with multiple layers before but didnt switch between them so often, it just closed verve without any notice when i wanted to change layer to be on/off.
----
ok now it happened 3rd time, it was when swithing layer on/off, i had two layers and was just drawing random stuff on 1st layer, second one had reference pic, so i was drawing random stuff on 1st layer to make this bug happen again and i switched layer on/off quickly and after awhile verve crashed without any info.It does happen but you have to do it a lot of times so eventually it will happen when youre in the middle of your work
---
Ok i found when it happens, it happens if you will press on magical place that will make verve exit without notice, so you dont need 2 layers cauyse it happens with 1 layer as well , its somewhere here marked in red:

If you will keep clicking with stylus on this place then verve will exit if youre "lucky", it doesnt happen with mouse when im trying it.I have wacom bamboo.
Yeah, happens everytime now, when i press on this place marked in red.IMO this bug is very critical, im kinda glad i discovered it while working on not so important stuff, i didnt encountered it before cause i wasnt switching between layers so often in the past, im wondering if others have it as well.
It happens only when im clicking on first top layer even if i have 10 layers, nothing happens when i click on border of layer 4,6 or 3.So there must be something with GUI were first layer top border is and tablet/stylus conflict of some kind, im clicking with mouse and nothing happens.
