99u15 Layers Opacity Rev

The new layers opacity behaviour is quite beautiful!
It reveals the hidden complexity of the material build up in the fluids as the opacity is rolled back.
It is a shame not to exploit this complexity!

I wonder Taron if you have considered a layer mode in which all this complexity is revealed
A layer mode in which the colour is multiplied by itself based on fluid density.

It would provide a translucent build up effect for watercolour. (as an option to the flat opague solid effect )

It would not! I tried that already early on and later on again, but it would not act as you'd like it!
Here's the reason:
We are not dealing with individual pigments, you know, because quantum computing is still to find its way into our homes.
As a result the amount of material would darken down existing and new colors alike, leading to the effect that any new color you apply to existing material would simply darken down and you'd lose all control. Feels aweful!

However, I currently very much enjoy taking the layer opacity down by default, hahaha, it's very cool to paint around that way. It's even practical in some cases and it surely adds to revealing the existing richness one can easily achieve.

Yes indeed this new opacity behaviour is truley a thing of beauty!
Especially in layer multiply mode.
Turn up the fluids and roll back the opacity......
and you get really beautiful watercolour effects!

THERE you go, see....that's actually a perfect way of getting this effect without sacrificing the ability to paint "normally".

Come to think of it.... ...I could actually make that a Layer Blend Mode!?
I think, I might just do that... and "ink" mode.

Pilou, the layer opacity dial now acts differently than before. This is what we're talking about. If you take opacity down now, it will regard the amount of material on the layer, effectively enabling you to reveal details in your paint that otherwise were only visible through lighting/bump.

Just added "visibility" as alternative for the original opacity behavior!

Nice work with implementation Taron!
They are both useful and important in different ways..... so good call to have both.

I can see how the terms might be confusing though...
what you are now calling opacity is in a way a visibility threshold for fluid density.
Regardless.....it is a beautiful thing.
