Re: Bug Reports

Message to the webmaster :
I tried to load a new avatar but I could not because the size is said to be limited to 6 KB, which is very very small (I could not even reload my old avatar then).
Thanks !

Re: Bug Reports

OK I could reload my old avatar actually, so it is not a bug, my bad. My new one (a vervatar !) could not be compressed enough to comply with the 6 KB even in the strongest jpg compression, even at 40 px x 40 px !
I suspect this is because it has this myriad of dots that i did to simulate CMYK screen printing.

Re: Bug Reports

You suppose correctly! It's just a vervatar after all, hehehe...look at mine, it's pretty complex, quite rich in color and communicates a lot...eh...even though not much of it is pleasant :? ...but you kinda make a point of identity and style rather than complicated transfer principles, you know. That being said, I really like your avatar...smurf...very identifiable as you! :)

Re: Bug Reports

Hey GBoGBo, what are you using for image compression?
In PS under "File -> save for web and devices" you can pick ".jpg" and then dial down the "quality" slider.
You get a little file size preview at the bottom left and should be able to get an 90x90 image smaller than 6kb without too much visual quality loss :ob

Re: Bug Reports

Hello jim, thanks a lot, but i used jpeg compression in Ps, at the worst quality (0), without preview, after reducing the image at 40 x 40 pixels without sharpening..., and i'm still exceeding the 6 KB limit.
This is because my vervatar try has to much sharp transitions on it as you can notice:
http://gbotet.perso.sfr.fr/vrv/moiCMK.jpg
jpeg is comfortable with "realistic scenes with smooth variations of tone and color" (quoting wikipedia), so my image is clearly difficult for the algorithm.
It is not a problem at all, i will try to digitally paint my smurf later on, with "smooth variations of tone and color" this time. :D

Re: Bug Reports

Hey again :)
i took the liberty to give it a quick run (if thats alright?) and around 50% i thought the result quality was, acceptable? :?

Here are the compression settings i used:

A repainted one sounds exciting as well, though :D sure am looking forward to see what You come up with :ob
i'd be happy to re-compress this one, or Your re-painted one to your liking! :D

Re: Bug Reports

I'd just wonder: "why?" :? ...I mean, it's not like it's prettier or more exciting looking. But then...what ever floats your boat, naturally!

Random stuff...

I realized that some topics don't quite have a specific category I could think of, but certainly don't fit into where they were. Thus we have this topic...

Random stuff like troubles in other apps and stuff... :PP
