Re: GBoGBo's random stuff

Hi all, thanks ! Another planet study :
HappyOne :
Image

- Texture in Verve (mainly brush #9 for the overall terrain, and smooth brush #6 for adding more material on a circle then erasing the center to shape the carter)
- Saved the height map file with Shift+Ctrl+S (did not use the color file)
- Height map edited with photoshop : more contrast and smiley add-on : )
(result here : http://gbotet.perso.sfr.fr/vrv/HappyOne_edited_map.jpg)
- mapped this file as displacement onto a sphere in Blender. For this step since i'm a beginner in Blender, I used the following Ben Amend's tutorial video from 12:00 to 19:00 :
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eeGKaupU_es
I did not try to fix the glitches because it is not the right method anyway to have an accurate rectangle-to-sphere mapping, still searching...
Rgds,
GBoGBo

Re: GBoGBo's random stuff

Hahaha.
That's a funny idea.
Looks pretty nice.
What about some stars for background, or far away mother earth?
(Searched for moon pictures, all of them are without stars. Your pic is correct)

Hi Knacki thanks a lot. And thanks also for the idea of editing height maps that I read on your thread, this is new territory for me !

Neat texture, and it reminds me of the Death Star on it's day off. :D

TwentyTrees :

Note: it's made with Verve but not by hand ! I have adapted and tweaked this very nice Processing script from Nellie Robinson (narobins) :

Re: GBoGBo's random stuff

Very great first try dear GBoGBo - for my self I like using UVMAP-ing :) you could try this too, the only problem with UVMaps are the seam* in some cases, but I like it, you will have better control for making textures. But u need to create a UVMAP first, e.g. with you can create UV MAP with roadkill (free) or 3DCoat or or or.

And Painting on UV - If you own 3DCoat you don't will have problems with seams.
