Re: Dev Diary

Hi Taron
Just want to throw in a few words of encouragement......
I read this and fear that you might be drowning in the " potential" of Verve.
So let me just remind you that the "current actual functioning reality" of Verve...or at least the one we have access to.....is already wonderful thing and way ahead of the curve!
If you did nothing more than to make the interface more obvious and accessible so normal people can dive in....then your still way ahead of the curve.
So while I am thrilled that you are cooking up wonderful things ( as you should be) I would encourage you to be kind to yourself, relax and enjoy the fruits of your labour.
Verve will spread like wildfire once it has a friendly face and there is plenty of time for it to grow into a monster.
Your the first one out of the gate with this wonderful and original approach and it will certainly inspire other developers to follow.
I dont say this so I can have a new toy...Im quite happy with what you have given us...it still blows my mind!
I say this so you dont lose sight of the forest for the trees.
And what a magnificent forest it is!
Breathe

Re: Dev Diary

I would dare to say that things like "overdoing the soft" is what scares me little bit :?
Hard to say for me as non-coder :(
But the effect kinda of is known to be existent in the world of art - when you destroy your otherwise masterful and dramatic creation with a 56th layer

Verve is waaay too cool as it is now! Carefulness could be our friend.
Taron, you just be careful with what you are about to do with Verve on your side :|

Re: Dev Diary

Thanks guys, yeah, it's dangerous, but I've really been taking a long break, so overdoing isn't really the trouble. The whole new interface will certainly be a scare, I could imagine, but maybe it'll be pure joy, too, who knows. One thing, though, is that I'm trying to preserve it's original character, even if it only ends up an option, but ...yeah... thank you both! It's great encouragement! :ob

Re: Dev Diary

Thank you Taron for your detailed comment. I can imagine how much work is behind your new version. In particular if I hear about the new things you mentioned. Mass container, not pixel based, not squared interface - all sound very good!
Good luck and let you mind and ideas fly for the time you need to complete new version. In any case I am looking forward to all things you mentioned you want to have there! :bounce:

Re: Dev Diary

Looked at paintstormstudio today. Some nice features like the perspective related drawing.
But hell, where is the canvas? Hidden with windows. That's the point where painting turns into adjusting brushes.
Ok. It seems everything is customize able, but look at zBrush.
Freaky possibilities everywhere....but where?
If it's not sorted from base, it will never be clean later.

Dogwaffle is the most worth example, I guess. Some brilliant ideas, sometimes strange executed and really not structured at all. Horrible like the advertising style.

Features need to be adjusted, therefore one need a tool set. But where and how?
Cool thing about verve is: open it and start right away in seconds.
Default size could be higher imho.
Just that pics started that way could be printed at A4

I am more than curious what's coming up ;)

Re: Dev Diary

What is pixelstormstudio ?
As far as any web searches I do it's a game development company not a painting program....

Re: Dev Diary

Hmmm...yeah, I wonder about the default canvas, too. I could have a selector at startup for the resolution?

Re: Dev Diary

Sorry paintstormstudio. Some really cool features in there.

@taron
Best would be, if possible, one could select once a preset size as Default for opening.
I really like that verve is immediatly ready.
No welcome screen, no selection of canvas size, no selection of canvas texture, no selection of anything - just start !!
So cool. This should be kept imho. But if there is a posibillity to define default startup size for ever. That would be a plus.

Re: Dev Diary

Haha, I totally agree and thought about that right away after having written the last post. Yeah, you should simply have a way to set the default. But I would never force high resolutions on a first time user, because you never know what system they're running and so on...
