Why?

Well I suppose the simplest answer is that I would love to have a show of these works in a gallery sometime soon.!
I have a 44 large format epson that I bought used for cheap and I love large abstract expressionistic work and LOVE what Verve does with a single swoosh of a brush and when I print these images out on paper or canvas MY HEART DROPS! @#$% As a student I used to work on large canvases but the material and space requirements are brutal not to mention that its no simple task to create a pleasing gesture across a 6 foot canvas. Verve is the ultimate playmate for this type of painting…it is literally like a musical improvisation…pushing, pulling, dancing. And as I become more capable with Verve, it becomes a controlled improvisation in which I am able to produce desired effects which are still very organic and random.
There in lies the magic of Verve for me. And then to print these images out on a large scale and swim in the colour and gesture…..well then…that is something.
And if you haven't yet then I encourage you to try printing one of your pieces out on large canvas. It will put a smile on your face.

HAving said that I have to mention that for some reason these painting do scale extremely well…I think its the 16 bit colour depth that gives it such latitude.
I can go up to about 24x36 fairly comfortably …its only when you have sharp details or hard edges that the pixels become apparent.

Regardles…..Im not requesting anything in regards of software resolution actually,…..…I was just curious about a workaround that might allow me to do some detailing by working in sections. I suppose even the 16 import would do the trick if and when it becomes possible

I think perhaps you underestimate the ways in which Verve wants to break out into the world and how people might use it Taron LOL! :)
Once it becomes more refined I can easily see art students everywhere from kids to universities using Verve because it has a feel and elegance that is truly unique.
And people will want to look at their art on the wall for sure!

Looking at things on a monitor is fine but when I print these images out at 24 x 36 they become something truly beautiful to behold.
Its a painter and some paintings want to live large!
Cheers

Re: Suggestions

Yeah, I know about the glory of prints, having printed out a set of my pictures on canvas, which adds yet some more drama to them. One of them actually hangs right next to me and it was a request at the time, hehehe...I just kept the test print. It was a painting I did with ArtRage at the time. Even my 3d works came out quite exciting looking. 8-)

I totally get your point, no worries there. You surely encourage me to push for that as soon as it becomes appropriate. The 16bit import, however, is HIGHLY appropriate for many more reasons than just that, so that's most definitely high up there in the priorities.

So, yeah, thank you once again, Stavros, you always give me such great motivation, it's very precious and even important to me!
I have to get my mind off of everything, though, to find that place of ease again that gives me the chance to accelerate again properly.

Re: Suggestions

Hey Stavros,

first I tried upscale in after effects and the even more sophisticated possibilities of photoshop.
Sure it can't add detail. Pixel steps keep pixel steps somehow. Not good
BUT!!

Try GBoGBo's trick pressing p with white selected. If that is not wotking try fill canvas with CTRL+SHIFT+F

Hahahaha - that's cool. With that trick I made 4701x3111 possible, just now! So also on slower configs you should be able to increase your resolution.
Always save first before starting to work, just to check that you won't get an Exception failure.

Oh man, didn't thought this is possible but I just add an second layer @4701x3111 and saving a 56MB png file.
Still no lag in fluids......... 4 layers ;)

I stop now in saving out 4991x3428. This was not possible to be displayed in HQ but still amazing detail.

I'll post the "4701x3011" one in my Gallery.
Why I use these odd numbers? Sometimes just some pixels more decide where you step over the edge of what's possible.

EDIT: 4991x3428 picture from above was not possible to be saved as a verve file, but as a png - makes your paintings unique art session 8-)

Re: Suggestions

Wow this would be amazing! Thanks for posting this

Can you be more specific about what to do please..
not sure what this means….
Try GBoGBo's trick to fill an even first shown black canvas with CTRL+SHIFT+FI tried this and no luck with 3500x2000 I still get error message
What kind of vid card are you using?
Are you able to reopen the verve file?

1-Create large canvas?
2-Fill it with a colour
3-Save
4-Paint
5-Save
Reopen

thanks

Re: Suggestions

Hey Stavros,
My computer specs are in my signature. It's a high end gamer level pc. First, I made a mistake. GBoGBo's trick was pressing p with white selected. Important if you are lucky in reopening. On a new canvas it does not really matter. (Before fill choose white ;) )I tried several resolutions above 4000x2500 nothing was possible to reopen, but I could save png.
I think you should start at your actual possible resolution and increase canvas size step by step. Save each step and try to reopen and work on it. First, you'll loose HQ. Interestingly I wasn't able to work on reopened png files too. Error.
So it's risky and unique what you are doing when it comes to the edge. Gives this extra thrill. :) Watch my thread for some pics in original size. Good luck for your try outs.

EDIT: OK. I tried this on my old workstation. It's a Xeon 3,2GHZ with Nvida Quadro 4000...around 3500x2500 without saving is max there.
It seams that the GPU is most important part. Those professional quadro cards have a complete different focus and are pretty slow in some circumstances.
Didn't check my laptop with an Quadro2000, but I am quite sure it will put down the limit again a bit more.

Waiting.....

Damn You Taron!
You've ruined me!@#$%^&*(
Ive been playing around with the new Painter 2015
you know....
while Im waiting :) lol
and well
let me tell you
what do I get?
more waiting.....
Waiting for brushes to "build"
waiting for big strokes to catch up to my mouse
waiting for diffusion to render
waiting for watercolours to "flow"
waiting for 16 bit support
yeeeesh
all that aside
Its just so freaking complex and non intuitive
I say this to remind you ( not that you need it)
that whatever it is you are cooking up in your magic lab...
that the magic of Verve lies in its simplicity , intuitiveness and immediacy
Nowhere is that more evident than the holy trinity of
Brush, smear ,average and erase ( quadrinity?)
Those three things do soooo much so quickly
it frustrates the hell of of me when I try to use another program now!
So there you have it
Youve ruined me
....but in a good way
ok....
so its more of a rant
than a suggestion
:)
lol

Ahm, if it's somehow any consoling to you, but I did kind of ruin myself with it as well!
I remembered having some joy with other painters such as ArtRage or even Photoshop, but...it's impossible for me to work with either now. And- dare I mention it- the little in between version I'm using of Verve is even better...like... significantly better! :?
Ah heck, grrrr, I don't know. I'll have to pull myself together. It's...just so damn sweet.
Here to help! :D

A little bit OffTopic ... did you work on MISCHIEF too? :ob Maybe MISCHIEF will kill Illustrator too - as sketching app - :D one day in the future. And Illustrator is only very fine with the Astute Plugins in my eyes ...
